I think the Chaparral will be my first Spyderco as well. Well either that or a Manix 2 sprint, but I will definitely have both at some point. Been looking for something smaller, of high quality, and somewhat unique, but not too flashy and I think Chaparral will fit that bill nicely. I plan to carry it in more of a "gentleman's folder" role.

Loving mine bought a couple weeks ago ;although my custom mini grip with S30V gets a little sharper, the chaparral is a much better looking gents folder to me and one I like having clipped on as it's much lighter than the mini grip and my 707S.

Just got it Friday, here's a little review of it.... Great knife but not to thrilled with it..

Thanks for the review. It's too bad it wasn't quite up to standards for the price. I was/am kind of worried about that, having read several posts about gritty pivot/lock action in this model as well. I guess it hasn't really been out that long, but I think I might hold up on it for a while longer to see if fit and finish gets refined as time goes on (or until a price comes up that I can't pass on). I would look harder at the Sage 1, but I really was liking the lock on the Chaparral and the slightly smaller size... On a side note, I did end up getting a Manix 2 sprint (Tan, M4) as my first Spyderco, which should arrive this week...

I just wanted to throw in that I got mine about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I had some very very minor grinding when pushing the lock down with my thumb, but in about 2 days it completely went away. My grind is a little high near the tip on the non spyder side but nothing that makes it look bad. Mine came very sharp. I was worried when I saw some people saying it was gritty and even causing scratches around the pivot area but mine is super smooth. It doesn't rub the liners and it only takes a tiny flick to get it to drop 90* when closing one handed. I carry it clipped FP and a orange delica (clip removed) in BLP. Only thing I would change about it is I'd give it a shorter and stronger wire clip just like my Dragonfly G10 but still keep the clip black like it is.
