Has Spyderco ever manufactured and marketed a folder with a chisel ground blade? I'm trying to find a quality made folder that has a chisel ground blade in a tool steel, preferably with a wharncliffe profile.

not a Spyderco, but awesome nonetheless.

I wish Spyderco would consider a sprint-run of a chisel ground folder design. They would sell well, I do believe.

I have a few chisel grind folders, and I find them nearly worthless for general utility. I think a chisel grind is just fine on a chisel, which is where it should stay.

I guess your idea of “general utility” differs from mine. The level of precision I require for daily free-hand cutting / edging (sometime scraping) tasks, often draw or push cuts, is best executed with a right-hand biased chisel ground blade with a primary edge of no less than 3”. I’ve used fixed blades of that pattern for years with satisfaction, but I’d like to have a quality folder.

I will second that- I have an Emerson cqc7a that I have abused for years and it is great. Cant do delicate tasks but for hard use outdoors it works great.

Yep. The Emerson CQC7 was exactly what I had in mind when I made my previous comment. Best folding gasket scraper I've ever had. Most expensive, too. If I was scraping gaskets off every day, I'd probably still be carrying one.

I'd love that. I like a chisel ground blade for whittling, but it'll have to come in a left handed version as well, so you can always keep the flat side down.

I'm another that has no use for chisel ground knives. I remember trying a few out after the Emerson Fad caught on with a Benchmade ( 3 models), then Emerson started his own company. They looked cool but proved useless to me and my money was better put in something I actually would use.

Think one problem is that a lot of chisel ground knives are ground for show, rather than for go. Right handed uses get to see the pretty grind, but they work much better for southpaws.

Digging up an old one, eh? For the record the Dogtag is a chisel grind.

A CG Spyderco would be my last folder purchase.
I might need a Dogtag.
Thanks.
