Hello Everyone,

I have been a browser of Bladeforums for the past few months, and thanks to this incredible community, I have gained an immense amount of knowledge that has led to the start of a great collection. This is my first post, so if I have made any errors in how so, I would appreciate any pointers or insight. In searching for my next knife purchase, I have narrowed it down to the knives in the title - the Spyderco Chokwe and the Spyderco Domino. Eventually, I plan to purchase both, so the main question is which one I should purchase now. I know that the Chokwe is one of the limited run Spydercos, so I am leaning towards getting that one first; however, due to my love of a flipper/bearing knife, I want to ensure that I can, without a doubt, be able to get a Domino at a later time. Ultimately, my main question is this: is the Spyderco Domino a full production knife for Spyderco that will be made for a significant time to come, or is it another limited/shorter run? Also, any opinions from owners of either knife are welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you,

Thomas

Get the Chokwe first because it is discontinued. The Domino will be available for a while so no rush there.

Thank you; I appreciate the information about the Domino's availability. Also, if anyone happens to own both of these knives, I would immensely appreciate some comparison pictures.

Domino is going no where.

Would be a bad move for spyderco.
Get the chokwe. First.

Are these going to be users or strictly for collecting? If they're going to be users I'd suggest going for the Domino. Its got way better steel, is general more refined and is more people friendly (tho its still a little on the large side for the sheeple if you worry about that). It's also got a steel LBI (lock bar insert) so it'll hold up better over extends use.

OTOH if you do plan to use them for collecting purpose only then yes, get the Chokwe, pretty soon the only NIB Ones available will start to go up in price and only users will be affordable.

Once you get the Domino you might not even want the Chokwe. I carry and use my Domino more than my other Spyderco knives. It's a great size, plenty of blade, flipper plus Spyderhole, bearings, steel lockbar insert, titanium and CF. It's got a lot of features. Plus it's right around 4 oz so its not super heavy.

Chokwe has a better handle than the Domino in my opinion, but otherwise I think the Domino is better in almost every way.

Thank you everyone for all of your helpful replies. Thus far, I buy all of my knives for the purpose of using them, which is generally a mix of light EDC tasks, so Cereal_killer, you may have a great point about the size difference of these two. I was also considering your point, Fanglekai, for after getting a ZT 0801, I have found that a flipper/bearing combination is hard to beat. I think what I may end up doing is get the Domino first, and if I still want the Chokwe, I'll take my chances on availability. It's still offered at a number of major online retailers, so I'm not terribly concerned that it'll be gone within a couple of months.
