I recently received this knife thru the help of an awesome kind fellow BF member, and I have to say, I am blown away by this automatic folder.

First some specs:
  • Blade Steel: CPM-S30V
  • Blade Finish: Black Carbon Nitride Coating
  • Handle Material: Hard Anodized Aluminum
  • Length Open: 8 1/2" (216mm)
  • Blade Length: 3 5/8" (92mm)
  • Length Closed: 5 15/16"
  • Hole Diameter: 3/8"
  • Blade Thickness: 1/8" (3mm)
  • Weight: 5.1 oz. (145g)
But the specs don't tell the whole story. The coating on this knife make the blade look blued, like a Dan Wesson revolver. It's beautiful.
The spring that launches the blade is powerful and it makes the blade come out with a zzzing. It should be intimidating in its own right.
The blade is the sharpest I've ever seen on any knife out of the box, bar none. Every Spyderco seems to arrive here sharper than the last one, and I that is saying something. This one shaves hair with less effort than an actual razor, and I am not exaggerating.

As mentioned, the steel is CPM S30V, and I think the relief edge is around 30˚ inclusive. It's not a mirror polish but it looks great against the black blade.

The handle is comfortable in the hand and has plenty of traction. There is jimping on the ramp, and the handle flares at the pivot end, so there is very little chance of it ever slipping from your hand. This is after all a tactical folder.

The blade is rock solid. There is no movement in either horizontal or vertical direction, lock-up is very tight.
The button that operates the knife is kinda stiff to work, almost feels abrasive, I think it just needs to get worked in. The safety catch is ON when it is away from you, OFF when it is moved towards you. Not sure if I find it the most logical positions but I'm already getting used to it.

Blade shape is kinda uncommon, the grind is saber but the tip bends towards the edge. It is still plenty pointy though. ;)

I was about to say I cannot find a fault with this knife but there is a little one: the clip is ridiculously tight. It was easy to bend it backwards a little, and make it as snug as I like.
So now the Large Citadel is just perfect.

Another classic from Spyderco.....

They need to make a regular folder with that blade shape, its a winner.

I've got both the Citadel and the Embassy Spyderco Autos, and gotta say Spyderco did these right.

It's so nice to have a review on the citadel here. I've been drooling over this knife for quite a while, but the high price and the fact that I'm in Europe and don't have anywhere to buy it from have kept me at bay. But we'll see what the future will bring. Anyway, thanks for review abd pictures!
