Spyderco citadel, safety rattling

Hi, I thought I'd mention this.

I ordered spyderco citadel auto but I wasn't very happy with the firing mechanism. The safety button was wobbly and caused slight rattling sound when the knife was handled/shaken. Is this normal?
Something about the button didn't satisfy me either. When I pressed the button with safety on, it went down a bit and blade opened maybe few millimeters. Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but I would personally expect a bit more from knife that originally retails at $300.
Blade deployment itself was very fast and impressive, opposite to what I've read.
Anyway, I returned the knife as I was quite honestly disappointed. I've been very happy with all my spydies over the years, especially my latest: Persian 2.

I hope I don't give negative picture of myself, but constructive critic. ;)

Peaceful december and holiday waiting to all and spyderco folks!

Mine does the same. I kept it. I also have a TR-4 that rattles when the blade is closed. No rattle when its deployed. Its not the safety though. You might have more joy posting in the auto area if you want some answers as to the cause of it.

I have one coming on Wednesday. I'll get to the bottom of this rattle and report back!!:D Seriously though, I'll probably be able to figure it out and to see if there is anyway to "shade-tree" correct it.:)

At least I won't have to worry about my Gayle Bradley rattling!!!:thumbup:

I just received my Citidel and have the same problem. I'm worried that the safety will engage in my pocket and prevent me from using it in a situation where I need rapid deployment.

Cutter, what was your outcome?

I've had a couple citadels, in both sizes. They've all done both of the things the OP describes. I've still got the first one I bought years ago. It has never failed me. I say don't worry about it.

I've had an 83mm Citadel for coming up on 4 years and don't have any looseness or rattling. The safety button isn't way tight, but I wouldn't call it loose. It takes positive pressure to change its position into which it "clicks." If I push the firing button with the safety lock engaged, the blade does move out about a mm or so, very slight. That doesn't affect anything, though, and I think that's normal. If I then unlock the button and fire the knife, it opens normally. The knife works great. I've never had a problem with it.

That said, my Embassy is about the same age. It's safety lock is what I would call tight. The blade doesn't move when pressing the firing button with the safely lock engaged. Just a different design, I think.

Yeah something is up with my new Citadel. I'm not too concerned, but it just lacks quality. I love the blade, yet when I hear the rattling, I just think what a piece of junk....Perhaps I'll work to get it fixed. I wanted to send it back, but they're all sold out and have nothing to give....

same thing here spyderco puts a lil dab for graese out of factory to stop rattel on safty so over time it fades away a

I would still recommend sending it back to Spyderco for repair. They stand firmly behind their products.
