Just ordered a Spyderco Civilian. Paid $134.95. I have wanted one of these for a while now.

Anyone else own or like this knife?

Never owned a Civilian but I had a Matriarch. Ended up trading it because I just don't like FRN. I love the blade shape though! But Spyderco has the Kerahawk coming out with VG-10, an Emerson wave, G-10 handles and I believe 4 way carry, with a hawkbill blade. I'm super excited about that one

Hi!

Have tried the Civilian and its a very mean knife. Its a little heavy for my taste so I sold it and got the Matriarch 2, much lighter nd almost as mean as the Civilian. I think You will love it, I tend to prefer the smaller and lighter knives.

I purchased mine a year ago via Ebay, $124.00 in excellent condition with pouch and paperwork.
I bought it only as a collectable piece, not to carve anyone up.
However in a SHTF situation here in N.Y.C. instead of the the "5 day" loss of electricity here after Hurricane Sandy, imagine a month or more.... it may come in handy.
I've shown the Civilian to a few people who are really unfamiliar with knife culture... just looking at it they were afraid to even touch it. :p

I also own a Tasman Salt that is small and very compact.

It is a very interesting blade-shape, although one wonders how it got named. As was posted, I guess for a SHTF scenario, it might come in handy.

I had one for a couple months, only carried once since it scared even my friends.
Love the look of it, really its awesome, just wasn't practical for me to own.

I bought the first version of the Civilian back in the early 90s. It has the rubber inserts that were later discontinued.

The newer version which I bought about a year ago has the advantage of allowing you to disassemble it when needed for thorough cleaning, etc. Also, the point is not considered as prone to breakage as that of the original version, according to some people's experience in this regard. I never had any problem with either. The rubber inserts are convenient for a good grip and fit my hand very well.

I carry one for backup on and off duty. Its one of my favorites for this role, along with a Cold Steel Safekeeper ll. A Sheriff's Deputy friend of mine with 30 years of LEO experience will not handle it. He says "that thing makes me sick to my stomach".

LoL! ..... I hear ya'... I can relate!:p

I can relate too! Someone once mentioned that it looks as if it could come right up to you and bite you! And I'm not sure that's not the case. Lol. "Do not taunt the Civilian."
