Hi. I was wondering what the best type of handle material would be for a Civilian. I've never seen a carbon fiber handled knife so, I have no idea how it would perform. I like G10 and think it's great but if carbon fiber is better, I'll get that. Also, should I get the plain edge or the serrated? I can get them both for about the same price so, it comes down to which one will perform better. Thanks.

How much performance are you looking for out of a knife so specialized that it isn't even warrantied for utility use?

Oh well...

The G-10 is less slippery than the carbon fiber, and I think you'll find the serrations to be more efficient for the slashing, ripping cuts that the knife is made for.

BTW - Mine's plain edged carbon fiber. It's a hard knife to explain away if I ever have to, so I don't carry it much.

The Civilian is purely defensive, so the serrated version probably will fill the bill.

Mine is the carbon fiber model, but the G10 will offer more of a non-slip grip.

When used as intended, white knuckle, sweaty palmed, life & death defense of one's life, the G-10 as well as the older aluminum/kraton civilians would be my choice. Actually, I sometimes carry the serrated aluminum model as a 2nd knife while on duty.

The carbon fiber may be the best looking but would be my last choice for real-world use since it is a bit slick.

Another huge advantage the aluminum model has over the others is the kraton insert in the clip keeps the knife right where you put it until (hopefully never) needed.
