At this point I have 25 Spydercos of many different styles, out of the 25 I have changed the clips to Lynch clips on 20 of them and the scales on 10, with all the other 100+ or so brands folders I own, I have only changed clips on maybe 7 and scales on 1.
I love my Spydercos, especially the blade steel and profiles, but not the clips or good number of their scales. Anybody have similar issues

I really only did mods because aftermarket options are so readily available. Otherwise, I just flip the clip for tip up carry.

The clips are fine but not great. They definitely scoop up too high. Probably the only thing I prefer from benchmade over spyderco is the clips lol.

I do enjoy lynch clips and have them on my more carried models. Mostly their ti deep carry clips but I also own a handful of their machined clips. Pricey but very nice.
The originals are fine for the most part and probably about 40% of my spydercos still have them.

I have never swapped scales however. Just seems like too much hassle for me anyway.

I've always wondered if Spyderco has considered partnering with AWT for factory built knives with their scales and clips. Or flytanium with manix knives coming from the factory with titanium or aluminum cages installed.

I'm not bothered with clips, I take them off from many of my folders actually, because i carry most everything at the bottom of a pocket, with the exception of some Natives that are clipped IWB in the summer months. I also installed Chaparral clips on my Dragonlies because the original ones are just to short to be secure.
Scales are a different thing, because i enjoy nice wooden scales, especially burls more than any other material, so if at all possible, i will swap the factory ones out.

Hi Stillshot,

We've always respected the after market mod guys. They had the "gumption" to bother to create a product, build a business on that product. We've always felt we should just appreciate that they, and you, care enough about our products to create "improvements" for some.

I imagine if a situation comes up where there might be a win / win opportunity, it might be considered.

You are a true Spydercos fanatics. I admire your commitment.

I have only ever changed one. I felt the clip choice was rushed for this one. I did have to add the lanyard since it sat a bit too low in my pocket after.

I’m down to 10 or so Spyderco- far and away my favorite mass production knife. Clips changed on all except a few of the deep carry wire clips.

Agree the Swayback is awesome in many (most) ways but the clip wasn’t working for me.

I never changed any on 30ish Spydercos. I'm open to it though, I just haven't felt the need. Certainly I might try a different clip sometime. Some of the new aftermarket scales look great, and I do get tempted, but I just spend the money on a new knife instead. At least so far.
