Sal, are there any possible plans for products such as caps, sweatshirts/pullovers, T-shirts, etc. or any one of the above from Spydie? I think the Spyder logo and the company name would be pretty classy. Heck, Cold Steel and Benchmade have these things, and I've briefly considered getting something from Benchmade. But so long as quality is good and so on, I like that Spyder.

Black caps with 'small' silver embroidered spyder offset to the side(not on the front and center) or on the bill sound nice.

Count me in if you ever do something in this line. Prefer T-Shirt / Sweatshirt as I don't wear caps at all.

Great Idea! I have introduced a fair number of people to Spyderco knives; this would be another way of promoting the best production folders in the world.

Yes, I'm interested too, Sal! Besides t-shirts, sweatshirts, and caps, how about Polo/rugby shirts or a denim shirt with the spyder logo, like the one that Bob Terzuola is always wearing. I swear that's the only shirt that guy owns! I'd wear mine all the time, too (but I'd buy a few so as to keep the B.O. factor to a minimum).

I'll add my voice to this cause. I've heard refrences to these sorts of things before but have never seen any. We talked about having a "Military Man" shirt made up for some of us here who are really into the Military, but it seems to have stalled (I guess).
Heck, I want a Spyderco t-shirt, a Military Man t-shirt, a Bladeforums.com t-shirt...
did I miss any ?

My fiancee is always telling me to buy some new clothes-this would be perfect. I don't think it's what she had in mind, but it would sure make me happy! Poor Sal, we're always begging for something around here!

We have just finished the first test run of caps. Have them in 5 colors and two styles of logo. One larger gold logo in front with Spyderco embroidered by it. One with just the small gold logo offcenter of the front, also embroidered. Should be able to make them available shortly. Unfortunately they are "nice" caps and too costly for most dealers to want to carry. We're working out details at this time. No photos yet. I think Ironstone had some of the test hats. about $18 weach.

Regarding the shirts; we've made a variety of shirts mostly for crew. Making shirts is not a problem. Selling them is. If we make higher quality shirts (which most Spyder people really prefer), they become too expensive for most dealers to resell. Maybe some kind of direct outlet would work.

Now you can help me? Whaddayawantonit? and what kind of shirts are preferred. Pockets? where?

Sal, my thoughts were to stick with t-shirts to keep price resonable, tho a t-shirt witha pocket would be a plus. Maybe on the front have the Spyder logo and company name on left breast in maybe 3 to 4" size; then on back have large letters "Spyderco"; or "Military Man" or whatever. Another idea would be perhaps a picture of an Endura, Delica, Worker or similar model on back under the company name. I think I could probably go on for quite awhile with different permutations but I'll leave room for other folks' ideas.
Thanks

Tshirts...I like the idea of a small emblem on the left front breast area, and a logo or pic on the back...but nothing cartoonish or too "flashy"...
What about selling them thru. the BF.com store??

I like the understated T-shirt with the small logo on the upper left side and possibly a tasteful (may not be possible with a knife T-shirt) picture on the back. I don't like too much cartoonish effect either. After all, we're talking "real using knife" T-shirt here.

A black T-shirt with silver lettering "SPYDERCO" above the pocket.

A silver clip with the 'Spydie' logo silkscreened on the pocket, as if there's a Matriarch in there.

and the reverse...a Grey T w/black lettering and a black clip w/gold 'Spydie' logo

I'd take one of each and a black hat/simple gold 'Spydie' logo offset on the front

Look Sharp/Be Sharp

I'd also like to see maybe a black, white, or gray sweatshirt with the old ad picture of the animals and the quote "All God's Critters Have Knives." and a small Spyder logo and "Spyderco Knives" just below it. It's a classy, non-cartoonish, non-threatening design.
I also think one of the designs would be cool to show off a knife, but perhaps in a way non-scary to sheeple. (Sad but true, too many sheeple see a picture of a knife and think, "Knife...potential psycho/murderer!")
As in the Critters picture above, if you wanted to have some designs with more detail, perhaps show wilderness scenes, or benevolent rescue-type scenes with the Spyder logo ever-present. This helps put the product in a positive light, perhaps in ways not thought of by "ordinary" people.
Everyone's got cool ideas!

I would love (and buy) a sport shirt with a collar, two or three buttons, with a spyderlogo and "spyderco" embroidered on the left breast(white or yellow). No pockets. The color of the shirt: navy blue.
As Sal said, I would also prefer a higher quality shirt.
I would also like a small spyder-pin which I could put on my suit when working. I have asked once, but then there was nothing planed. I know they do exist because I once saw a dealer wearing one.

Sal,
I know this might date me, but I have a black t with the "All God's critters have knives" screened on it in white. Nice looking t-shirt. Kinda ratty now. I like the idea of the clip in a pocket with the Military on the back. How about "Field Tester" above the pocket with the Spyder on the pocket for the Forumites?

I think a good quality T-shirt would be a good start, with the Spyderlogo on the left breast area. I agree with no pockets (unless you make a special Spyderco shirt with a small pocket near the bottom of the shirt just to house our clip-its). As for color: white or navy. I agree with the posts above about not putting the actual knife picture, heck if anybody asks us what Spyderco means or is, most of us have a mini showroom to show them anyway. I would really like to see a short sleeve "Polo" type shirt with the Spyderlogo embroidered on the left. I would also purchase a sweatshirt if one were available.

Take care,
Tom

redmag~

I have some pins, if you'd like one. Just email me your address, and I'll get one out to you. Not sure I have many models to choose from, but I know I have *some*.

I don't think that $18 for a hat with an embroidered logo is too much, especially if anyone has looked at embroidered sports team hats etc. I would rather advertise for Spyderco than some team or Nike, or Reebok, etc. I think a blue workshirt or good quality (of course) with a small logo and the company name on the pocket or right above it would be great! Most of the other suggestions have been good ones also. I also agree with not showing a pic of a knife--it would be too hard to decide which one. BTW-black caps look good but are unbearable anytime of the year except winter and late fall. Smaller logos are better on hats or shirts both. Classy designs for a classy company.

I'd favour sedate and understated, Sal. Something simple and classy.

The t-shirt idea with a simple 'Spyderco' along with the spydie logo along side it on the left chest (in lieu of a pocket) would be cool. On the back perhaps just a similar small design, up by the nape of the neck.

Going the other way, maybe even a large spyder emblem, but muted...like a light grey logo on a white shirt, or some such. Just thinking out loud now.

Hey, random thought time: how about a Spyderco tie line? You know, nice patterns with subtle images of Enduras and Delicas and spyderwebs and spyders and matriarchs and starmates and such...

HEY HEY HEY!

How about THIS:

A tie bar...designed to look like a spyderco knife clip. Silver, shaped just like the clip and complete with a little spydie on it. So you'd have to look twice to see if the businessman in front of you is using a cricket as a tie bar.

Yes, I'm serious. I'd buy one in a minute. That would be an AWESOME 'inside joke' for the knife community. Hell. If anyone breaks off a clip, I might just MAKE one.

Optional variation: a spyderco tie bar knife. available in stainless and micarta, spyderedge and plain, gold and silver clips.

Think about it, Sal! the ultimate 'gentleman's knife!'

PS yes, the last 'variation' was a joke...sorta.

The miniature Spyderco knife tie clips were around for a while, with many different handle materials. I remember seeing them for sale but when I asked about them at the blade show a few years ago I was told they were for dealers or something. Does this sound familiar to anyone or am I having a mind "poot"?!
