Yesterday my brother's Spyderco collection was stolen. Someone broke into his house and pretty well cleaned out his knife collection. He lives in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands, so if any Spyderco knives show up on ebay or any other sites being sold from St Croix, they will be his. They also stole a knife I made for him. It has Jade green G11 scales and is stamped M.Griffin on the tang. Crazy thing is that for some reason, they left a blue Lum Chinese Folder that was with the rest of them. My brother has worked on this collection for years and he is pretty bummed. I hate thieves as do we all so lets try to get these suckers. If anyone sees any of these knives, please PM me here or email me at griffinknives (at) gmail (dot) com

Sorry to hear about this. Same thing happened to me about 12 years ago. The blue Lum being left seems to me that it was probably some one he knows or has talked to about his collection. Hope they catch the thief and he gets his stuff back.

Man that sucks, I hope you guys can track down the thief and get the collection back.

Sorry to hear about that. Quite a collection. We'll keep our eyes open.

There seems to be more and more of this going around. Some protection might be in order?

I'm very sorry to be reading this. Some people are just scumbags. I truly hope they get caught and are punished to the maximum. I'll let some of my ebay pals to look at this thread too. Best of luck.
Check Craigslist and local pawnshops as well.

Yeah, I hope he gets them back, but I know the chances are slim. He thinks it was either kids or a crackhead. Either way they are probably being sold locally and cheap. If they do some online research, the draw of making some real money on ebay may be more than they can resist, who knows? He is going to spread the word on the island and keep his eye out for any clips with a spyder on it. I wouldn't want to be the guy walking around with his knife and have him see it. He is pissed as many of the knives are pretty much irreplaceable and took years to put together. Crooks suck.
Thanks for keeping your eyes peeled.

Ah crap, I could not imagine that feeling, that bloody sucks. Hope he gets them back. Kinda makes me think about taking mine off my wall and back into the safe.
Middle eastern punishment for stealing. Are you right or left handed?

Start watching Ebay & other avenues the thieves might use to unload them. Knives from that list selling from the Virgin Islands should stand out. Call all the pawn shops too. Offer a reward if they holler at you when such knives come through their store. That collection's unusual value will be obvious to even the dumbest crackhead scumbags & they'll look to get full value for it. I hope these trashbags pay severely for this.

Wow, I'm almost speechless right now. Someone must have known what they were looking for, right? I will do my best to keep my eyes and awareness open for any signs of knives being sold from that area.

You should also be calling local PAWN SHOPS in the area because most thieves aren't looking to steel things so they can sell them on the internet. If they're breaking and entering, they're probably looking for the quickest turnaround possible. The sooner you get your list out to Police and Pawn shops, the better chance you'll have if they did go that route. Most states force pawn shops to hold merchandise for a month to be checked against police stolen-item-reports.

I get sick to my stomach the more I look at that list. Unbelievable!!!

I just talked to my bro again and he thought of 4 more knives so I added them to the list.
ATR Serrated Black Coated
Little Temp Leaf PE
Pro Venetar PE (His first spyderco from waaaaaay back in the day)
Pro Grip

Also found out they left the Blue Lum, a Dodo, and two other Santa Fe Stoneworks Dragonflys.
Interesting enough, there are no pawn shops on the island so the thieves can't go that route. Hopefully the knives aren't sitting in some bushes somewhere. I will keep you all updated if there is any news. Thanks.

... The sooner you get your list out to Police and Pawn shops,....

just go to the police, if you go to a pawnshop and tell that guy that there is a bunch of stolen property on the lose, if that property comes in hes not going to take it

Man it's terrible to say, but you might want to look at the people you had in your house that know knives. I think the average thief has no idea what your collection is worth. Why leave the blue lum? Were they the only things of value in your house? If you had other valuble stuff, then I think you and your knives where targeted. Maybe they were stolen to add to a personal collection. Guy pays theif to steel your collection in order to add to his.
To source your knives legitimately would cost thousands, but to pay a thief would be substantially cheaper. What some people would do for $500.00. Once again sorry. Just a thought were any numbered collector pieces?

The police are already looking. He is sure it wasn't someone he knows. The knives were displayed, and a crook would not have had to look hard to realize that they were something special. The thieves did take some other stuff like ipods, computer, camera, jewlery, etc. Seems like he was targeted randomly, which happens a lot in St Croix. You are hard pressed to find someone who lives there who hasn't been stolen from. Sad, but I would still live there in a heartbeat if I could make it work.
