Since my joining back in the summer of '07, I have always maintained that I do not like Spydercos, and I've always said that the thumb holes just "don't work for me."
This is no longer the case.
I was at a local gun shop today, and all Spyderco models were 20% off, for a New Year's sale. I figured I'd take advangtage of this and actually looked at Spydercos, something I had always refused to do. My prejudice was based on handling hard-to-open knives at big-box outdoor stores, as well as Chinese made Byrds, but the Spydercos I held here felt nothing of the sort. Everything I tried opened smoothly, with only a tiny hint of a wrist flick- which I have been using anyway to open my Benchmade Axis. The Military was especially nice, but still a bit out of my price range. However, I really liked the Endura, and found the model with the right looks for me: a green-handled plain edge in ZDP-189. I've only had it for a couple of hours, but I have yet to find anything I dislike about this knife: it's very sharp, opens smoothly, has good ergonomics, was reasonably priced at $80 - 20%, and looks good, something that Spydercos tend to fail at.
My name is Preston Parham, and I'm a Spyderco convert.
Now it's time to save up to get a Military...
(I also picked up a Byrd Finch and smaller Buck Bucklite, both for under $10)

Next time you're looking, have a look at the Native, much underrated IMHO.

That, and the Calypso Jnr., would be my favourite Spydercos.

Got my first two Spydercos yesterday in the mail finally. Got the Spyderco Native and the Ladybug III. I handled the Native in a store a few weeks ago, it was a serrated version, and for some reason I didn't like it. The ergonomics were awkward. But I ordered a PE one anyway because I haven't heard a bad thing about it. And for some other awkward reason, when I received mine it felt great in the hand! My Ladybug was smaller than I expected, but then again I expected it to be smaller than I expected, and it's already growing on me.

I like em!

When I saw the title I thought it was a new knife out from spyderco :o

I'm happy to hear that there's another Spydie knut out there :D

If you like the military and endura you might also like the large Manix, the police (both new and old versions) and even the para-military.

Good luck shopping, J.

Welcome to the Spyderworld:)

When I was a knife-newbie I didn't like the Spyderco knives especially for the look, but time later, after reading awesome feedback about the Manix, I got one and hell that knife open my eyes to what it is a quality-knife.
Now I love Spyderco, it is my favorite company, I have also knives made by others good companies (Bradley, Benchmade, Camillus, Cold Steel...), but I am only fan of Spyderco & guess what it is the aspect that I love the most about Spyderco knives?

...the design: extremely functional & ergonomic:thumbup: after that first Manix, I have bought several others Spyderco & they are the meter that I use to judge every other knife on the market.
Now I also like the look of the majority of the Spyderco models, it's true that sometimes growing means changing.
The only aspect that I would like that Spyderco improves to their models is the finish inside the knife, when you disassemble the knife you can see that the parts are a little bit too rough, but this doesn't affect the function of the knives.

Spyderco rulez:thumbup:

I also recently got a spyderco (military) after being a benchmade guy for years. it may be possibly my favorite knife to date. Enjoy, like me you'll end up buying another.

I bought a Centofante 4 a few years ago and gave it to a friend soon after, I couldn't get used to the hole opening.
Then, a few weeks ago I picked up a Dodo and loved it.
I subsequently bought a Military last week.
Consider me converted. :)

if you like the endura, you'll love the manix!!! where the endura is sleek, the manix is a tank!

i finally got a spyderco civilian, its a wicked blade.

also, i find the spyderco dragonfly to be a very underrated knife, its designed very well.

the spyderco lava is awesome too, i just wish it would come in a frn/g 10 version

I didn't get the appeal of the brand until I found a model I really liked the looks of--Caly 3--and tried it out. Then I was hooked.

They really are very well made, well thought-out knives. And as similar as many of the knives may look in some photos, they're very specialized, individual tools. Which is to say, it's easy to look at some of Spyderco's lineup, and think they produce a lot of fairly similar looking, FRN and G-10 lockback knives.

I've been consistently impressed by the "personality" characteristics of each Spyderco I've purchased.

Really, Spyderco ought to start printing addiction warnings on their boxes.

Hi Jim,

Thanx for the "try"and the kind words.

We try very hard to create designs that serve our customers. The Endura has been evoving for more than 15 years. Input for improvement comes from our customers and we try to accomodate. ZDP-189 is special stuff. I hope you enjoy it.

Congrats to being converted to Spydercos, believe me, once you' ve started there' s no way back:( :D

I never liked the look of the Spyderco's either, but I bought a Wally World Native in s30v because it was a design that I liked. It's a great knife and I like the blade shape, but the handles weren't just for me.

So....out comes the Native 4. I just ordered one! It looks fantastic!!!!

One thing I will say about the Endura is that the pocket clip tends to ride with a lot of handle sticking up. A lower-profile clip would be nice, like the one on the UKPK.
