I always thought the copilot was one of the coolest little knives. I know it was marketed as a legal knife to carry on flights until the total knife ban, also as a money clip. I had 3 or more of them many years ago, (20 some bucks I believe back then) now I'm down to one fully serrated beater.
I would have thought the copilot was a decent seller? Anyone know why it was discontinued? Has spyderco ever brought back a discontinued model? Anyone else love the copilot?

Had to look up the Copilot as I wasn't familiar with it. I'd think that, as neat of a knife as it was, once the primary reason for its existence disappeared (being pitched as the knife you could bring on an airplane), the sales probably tanked. Beyond that, though, I'd say the design is a bit dated. Nowadays there's still a bunch of Spydercos in the ~2" range - Dragonfly 2, Manbug, Chicago, Roadie... all of which appear in pictures to be a bit more evolved in ergonomics (definitely more modern in appearance). That being said, I've never held a copilot so I could be wildly wrong about the ergos part.

SKUs are dropped when sales can't justify them remaining in the lineup. The CoPilot had a sprint run but even that was many years ago.

Kubelik you've got some valid points. I've never owned the rodie or manbug so I can't speak to them directly. I do have the chicago and dragonfly. While the chicago is almost exactly the same length as the copilot it's much wider and has the wire clip which I'm not fond of. I think your right that the dragonfly is better ergonomically but I *believe it's also a bit bigger knife. I just gave mine to my daughter so I can't compare. I guess I'm just being sentimental. As XChris said if it were selling it wouldn't have been discontinued.

Not so much the co-pilot but I much prefer the Navigator II to the ever popular Dragonfly. Think they both got cut around the same time.

I remember the navigator II, nice knife and more ergo than the copilot but also a touch bigger if I recall.
