spyderco cpm d2 military or zt 0551 which is the better value

The CPM D2 Para 1's were nice knives but when they were discontinued, Spyderco was selling them off for $99 each factory direct - I bought 4 of them back then.

Unless slim carry and low weight is your goal, I'd still go with the 0551 simply for the Elmax if nothing else.

Yeah ZT 0551 is better value, it's got the RIL and ELMAX steel. AND it's assisted!

That was a great deal.

I will give you $100 for one! :)

I think either one is a good choice but I always lean towards the Spydie!

I would say the Mili D2 is the better VALUE, but the ZT 0551 a better KNIFE. and NOT assisted.

Im in love with the cpm d2 millie. I had the para 1 cpm d2 very keen edge . I like the 0551 I have blue black frag on it now and like even more now. I know its hard to find the full size mille with the d2 man choices

Among other things, depends on how you want the knife to feel in hand. The zt 0551 feels more substantial, while the millie feels light and fast in hand and it does give you an extra 1/2" in blade length.

Sold a zt 0551 that I had broken in and it was flying open like it was on rails, smooth and solid lock-up- got another one and still in the process of breaking it in.

All in all, I'd go with the zt 0551.

the other thing I noticed is the 0551 just doesnt feel as sharp even though it is .

The millie seems to be more rare, and with the release of the 056x and 0550 I don't foresee the price of the 0551 going up much perhaps even it will fall little from the current prices once the availability of 056Xs increases.

Those full sized Foliage Green CMP D2's are a rare bird, and my favorite Military made other than a couple of the Carbon Fiber models.

Not many come up for sale, but the last couple I saw sold for over $200. I'm not sure what the 0551's are selling for, or how many was made.

1,000 ZT 0551's were made PLUS some blems. There are knives with serial numbers higher than 1,000 due to the blems that were produced, so to get to the 1,000 knives, they had to make more.

I liked the 0551 so much I bought a second one. It is a stout, overbuilt, but well proportioned knife. The 0560/0561 is another winner.
