Spyderco Cricket. A bit too expensive?

I was interested in purchasing a Cricket the other day but I just couldn't get myself to spend $60 on such a small knife. I bought a delica 4 and an endura 4 for just under $60 a while ago and they're amazing knives, worth every penny in my opinion. The quality of the knives Spyderco produces, in my experience, is excellent.

Cutting to the point here, is the Cricket really worth $60? I know it's subjective but how much does it really cost Spyderco to produce these knives? Perhaps they can lower the prices a tad. It's priced just a bit too high for my taste. I wanted to see what y'all think about this. Thanks.

The SS crickets are about 40 and the eched are a bit more.

Hi Spydercofan,

Our prices are based on our costs. Our margins are relatively fixed.

A female coworker of mine had one as her EDC. IIRC she felt it was worth every penny.

I have used a SS etched one as my money clip for the last few years, lost it once and got a replacement for it and guess what showed up. Would not feel right without in the pocket. Very nice knife with a purpose.

I have an SS PE Cricket. It is a very fine little knife - capable of doing 90% of the cutting I need to do. Very easy to carry and to use one handed.

If you want one, pay the $60.

I did a quick search and I cant find a new one for that price. They seem to have increased in price since I bought one.

Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.

The SS cricket, IMO, defines the "Little Big Knife" philosophy. If I ever lost mine, it would be replaced in a heartbeat with no thought given to the price.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on a cricket. Sal himself has taken the time to reply to my question. What other company's president would take the time to answer his customers question? Not many. IMHO part of the company's success is based on how well Spyderco treats its customers and how they make them feel part of the Spyderco family.

I've paid more than for all stainless Kiwis. The Cricket isn't "worth it" to me because it has a wrong handed lock, a blade shape I'm not fond of, and a handle shape that doesn't really work for me. Aside from that, it's a little gem in terms of fit and finish and I don't think the it's overpriced by any means.

I had a great cricket, the original aluminum scale one, that got taken by TSA. I loved it; it fit inside my beltline so it didn't poke me when I sat down, and it's the perfect size and shape for all kinds of things. It's small enough, in fact, that I didn't find it after several pat-downs as I went through security...but there it was. I have a stainless one, and finally located another aluminum one. They're great little knives.

I don't recall what I paid for them (one was a gift), but I think they're worth it.

I was able to buy an Etched SS Cricket for $40 shipped before christmas time of 2009, but of course as time goes on prices can and do go up.

If it makes you feel any better I paid $80 for a SE CF Cricket. :p
These little knives really cut and make GREAT money clips!

The Cricket is worth every penny. It's truly a unique knife. And It's truly useful. If you're right handed.

quality comes at a price.
and the cricket is way to valuble to me to even think of placing a price on it.
havin' said that;
there's hardly time for regret in the unlikely event of liquidation of such prized assets,
for there will always be an interested buyer the moment a spyderco is up for grabs in the secondary market.
quality it seems, pays off better in the long term.

Well crap...

I was one of the ones thinking the price for such a little knife was a little steep, but after reading some of the posts here I might just have to try one out.

I went through a phase several years ago where I bought everything in site (no pun intended) off eBay. Many of these knives were Spydercos, and the Cricket was one of them. I got rid of it because it was so small, but in hindsight, I wish I would have kept it. I have big paws, and that was a great knife.

Like Bruce said, the Cricket is the definitive LBK. One of the first Spydercos I bought, and one of the few I kept. Excellent knife, managed to snag a modded etched serrated version too.:)

Gaj, glad to hear you're liking the Spin.
