Hey guys. I recently acquired my first spyderco. Wanted to go with something a little cheaper in case I didn't like it so I went with the all black Tenacious. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and needless to say I'm in love with it and will definitely be purchasing more spydercos in the near future.

I am never one to be like everyone else, So I really want to get some g10 blanks and make some custom scales for my new knife. I do not plan on doing any crazy custom patterns just yet. I simply want to match the factory scale in a different color.

My first question is: how thick should I order the blank? 1/8", 3/16", etc.

Second: if you guys could post some pictures of custom scales you have done on your spydercos (any) id appreciate it. I think it'll give me a better feel for what each color look like once it's on the knife.

Thanks.

The stock scales on my Tenacious are about 1/16" thick. If you like the way your Tenacious feels in your hand now, then use whatever thickness of G-10 matches, or at least comes closest, to that. Doing so would also have the added benefit of allowing you to re-use existing hardware.

My fist Spyderco was a tenacious too, and because of it I caught the Spyderco bug. If you would like to re use the original hardware know that the screws can strip easily so use good quality bits and drivers and keep even pressure on the screws. Also remember when you work with G10 to wear a proper respirator to avoid inhaling the fiberglass dust, that stuff can mess you up.
