Spyderco D2?

Hey guys I have a question. Without doing a bunch of research on the webz can anyone tell me if Spyderco ever made any of their knives with D2 blades and if they did what model(s). The reason I'm asking is I love Spydercos and I'm a big fan of D2. I like the way D2 performs. It sharpens easy and gets Scary sharp like carbon steels do but it has a reasonable degree of rust resistance being it's almost a stainless steel. Thanks in advance.

The only ones I remember were CPM-D2 (not ingot D2) sprints for the Military and Paramilitary. There is a steel selector on the Spyderco store web page that displays a lot of the discontinued knives.

D2 was used on a sprint run of the Paramilitary 1 with foliage green G1- scales. It is my favorite from all the Para1 versions.

CTS-XHP is very much like D2 except it's actually stainless. CruWear is a very nice tool steel that's tougher than D2 and also very easy to sharpen and quite corrosion resistant compared to carbon steels. Both are available in current Spyderco offerings which will be easier to find. Might be worth a look, but if you're set on D2 you'll have to watch the second hand market and likely pay a premium.

New manix sprint cru wear is nice and still somewhat available.
There's a d2 pm2 sprint with foliage green handles. About double the price of the manix sprint.

It's supposed to have a slightly smaller and more uniform grain structure, but it's unlikely to make a noticeable difference unless you do a LOT of very precise and accurate testing. In average/normal use it'll feel about the same.

I have a spyderedge version of the PM 1 D2 sprint. As far as I know, only two were made. I managed to grab mine from Eric. Unfortunately, I don't ever use it. Partly because it's so unique, but also because I never really fell in love with the PM 1 ergos.

Wasn't the bushcraft made in D2?

O2 if I remember correctly. Unless they made a running change.

Edit - missed the mention of the SE.

There were hundreds made, and they were actually available for years. Spyderco wound up closing them out at a big discount. It was a very unpopular sprint. Lots of us have them and really like this one, but it sold very poorly.

Niles means that only two D2 PM1s with spyderedge were made...

It is true that this sprint run did not sell well. I picked 3 D2 PM1s at the SFO on clearance for $80 each.

Anyone know how CPM-D2 compares with ingot D2?

It seems to be a bit more corrosion resistant, and it seemed to hold a finer edge a bit longer than my D2 Queens, but nothing too dramatic. The batch of steel Spyderco had was an experiment, and the first reports I read said they felt the gains were too small to make production worthwhile, but I later read that Crucible was going to go ahead with production after their reorganization. I don't know whether it happened or not.

I've heard people like it, dislike it, and some indifferent to it. I generally get along with D2 run at 60-62rc and sharpened coarse. Other than being a bit easier to sharpen I don't really feel the need to powder process D2. I suppose it is a bit tougher but the knives I had CPM D2 in that didn't enter into it. To be honest Cruwear and that class is the same. I get along just fine with the ingot versions. When you get up to the carbide percentage of CPM M4 it does pay off but to be honest in D2 it's not needed to make knives I enjoy. That doesn't mean I dislike it but it's not really needed.
