Hey folks...just stumbled upon the Spyderco Dayhiker in my never-ending search for a good all-purpose hunting/outdoors fixed blade...saw a video review of it on YouTube, and the thing looks mighty beefy...any good results with it from anyone here? Blade looks like it'd be good for camp duty and skinning/field dressing, or am I wrong? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I've got the Forager wich is the big brother of the Dayhiker...it's a great knife overall. The only downsides are the recurve blade...a bit of a pita to sharppen in the field and the sheath. It's seats way too high and the knife doesn't feel secure in it...other than that it's a fine blade.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I like the N690Co and the full flat grind with convex edge - it is easy to strop. :D

The sheath has been an issue for some. I have the Forester and Woodlander which I understand have larger handles than the Dayhiker. Their sheath retention seems ok to me but the Dayhiker sheath may be a different kettle of fish.

Here is a very recent thread on the Dayhiker, including a pic of a tree I chopped down with the Forester (no blade damage of note). Hope this helps. :)

also interested in this knife (found this thread thanks to Search) and was wondering if people think it's too big for hunting duties with turkey, deer, and elk...thoughts from those more schooled than i? thanks!
