Spyderco has created a video designed primarily to explain to dealers what Spyderco is all about and why we are different.

Questions comparing Spyderco to other companies are often times frustrating because the stuff that makes our products better are not easy to see. "invisible quality".

Some of it is in the product like "eccentric pivots", offset arc ramps, exotic steels, tested lock strengths, etc. Some is in the company like testing facilities, philosophies, attitudes, goals, patents", etc.

The video is very professional and informative.

These are being sent to those dealers interested (& writers) free of charge.

We will make these available to the ELU beginning next week (Wednesday 5 JUL 00) at SFO (800-828-1925).

We will have to charge $5 to help offset mfg, shipping & handling costs (domestic). sorry. overseas customers may be charged more depending on where it's going.

Sal,

What a great offer! I really was impressed with the quality of the video with the Sharpmaker. I've also bought the book. This will be one more addition to my knowledge base about Spyderco. Makes it so much nicer when you know more about a company than just the end product.

Thanx Dean. Most folks these days don't realize that most purchases are a "relationship" with the producer of that product, be it a restaurnt or a car company. The "one night stand" type of purchase is also made with little thought to relationship. I would guess that might measure the depth of thought in decision making?

Sal,

I agree with Dean. I just bought a Sharpmaker this weekend from a knife store here in the mall in Valdosta, GA. Nice people, very helpful and I paid FULL RETAIL!

What struck me, though, was the video. No one on the tape sounded like they were reading from a script. It was like two people sitting around listening to you explain your Sharpmaker and asking questions. And Sal, you are a great teacher! You were very low key and answered questions I had as I watched the tape.

Well done!

Hi Sal!

Is the video also avaliable in PAL format?
(no need to convert it for me!)
TIA

Red - Our sharpener video has been converted into a variety of formats. I don't know if the dealer video has been converted yet, but I'm sure it will be.

Dear Sal,

My Video player is collecting dust. Any chance of viewing the spydie dealer video in Video-CD or DVD format? This would really help in broadening my knowledge on Spyderco's blade know-how.
I work for a local evening daily in Malaysia and have written a piece about the spydie blades. I've sent it by surface mail to Beth Swenson.
BTW, How much would it cost for shipping it to a foreign ELU like me in Malaysia?

Sam - We might eventually produce the piece in CD format, but right now, video is it.

Regarding shipping costs to Malaysia, haven't a clue. You'll have to contact SFO...email probably.

I'd like to see the article when Beth receives it.

Sal - Joyce sent me a copy of it a couple weeks ago, very nicely done. I really like the shots from inside the plant with the grinding, laser cutting, and testing. Overall, it definitely portrays knives in a positive light, great job on it! Siskel and Ebert would give it two thumbholes up
