Spyderco Delica 4 vs Dragonfly 2 FRN/G10

Hi, I have recently purchased the Dragonfly 2 FRN. I am kinda worried, because it has no steel liners. I'm not sure if I should try to see if they'd let me return it and save up for the delica 4 or the dragonfly g10. What are your suggestions... Are steel liners better and should I get them? I like the size of the dragonfly 2 but it has no liners, so should I see if they could refund it and I could try to save up for the g10 version? Any suggestions, Thanks and I really appreciate it!

I may be wrong, but my understanding was that the FRN versions had skeletonized and recessed steel liners, so the only way to see them would be to look inside the handle with the blade open. Do you not see any there?

I actually was debating between a Spyderco Rescue and my Byrd Meadowlark Rescue 2 initially, but one of the reasons I went with the latter was that I couldn't see any liners in the Spyderco either. However, the website suggests that they are there... Perhaps they're just well hidden? I honestly couldn't tell you, other than the fact that the Delica 4 in FRN does have steel liners.

You could always just keep the Dragonfly and buy another knife... ;)

Personally, I prefer steel liners and a bit of heft to my knives. The Dragonfly2 is linerless FRN. I would consider the G10 model, or if you're really liking the Dragonfly formfactor, the ZDP/Nishijin model.

Oops, just took a look at the Spyderco website, and you're right, it doesn't list the liners.

Is the handle flexing while you're using it? It's not a big knife, so I don't imagine you'll be exerting that much force on it or using it for such big tasks, so it should be fine for normal use. If you really are that concerned, then it looks like the SS handle is the next step up in price, but you won't be able to take it apart. Otherwise, as you said, it's either go with the Delica 4 and have a slightly larger knife, or spend a fair bit more and get the G-10 version. It doesn't look like there's any other options in the same size/price/blade style/lock style range for you.

You exactly captured it. In what the Dragonfly would be used for, it would be difficult to overexert the knife and actually need liners. In this case, having them or not is purely a matter of personal preference.

The frn is more than sturdy enough for the DF2, especially being that it is so small and you are forced into using the finger choil, which results into most of the force being exerted on your thumb and index finger rather than the handle itself, I own a DF2 in ZDP-189 with the frn handles and it's an incredible little knife that will cut anything from pretty thick cardboard to small zip ties without a problem

Your comparing apples and oranges. The Delica 4 is a great knife in it's size range. The DF2 is a different beast. It's perfection personified for a knife its size. I actually consider my knife collecting a quest to find a replacement for the DF2. It doesn't need liners because your limited by blade length in performing the tasks in which liners would be necessary. Now the kicker is.....find a knife that is a bit bigger that will perform the cutting duties the DF2 cannot as well as the DF2 performs what it can. THAT is a big task. Not even going to try to find something better than that clip. Forget it.

All that being said.....It's fun to try.:D

Currently in my bedside tray of coolness trying to top the DF2....

What I carry currently that "might" be close to replacing the DF2...
