I recently purchased my new spyderco delica 4. It is my first spyderco. I watch videos. of people opening it with there finger really fast. I try to do that but it just is to hard to do with one finger. Anyone got any advise

It takes time getting used to the feel of the knife, and for the knife to break in a bit. It is a lockback, so resistance is present throughout the entire opening motion, making it more difficult to flick. I've not been one to be able to thumb flick lockbacks open, and prefer not to for the safety of my thumb. I almost always middle finger flick open Spydercos - it even works well on lockbacks once you're well practiced. Pinch the handle just in front of the lock between your pointer finger and thumb. Place your middle finger in the Spydie hold from the back of the knife, finger nail pointing the direction the blade will point when open. Quickly snap your middle finger up, in the direction the blade will be when open, and let it naturally curl away as it opens. I've found it to always be perfectly safe and quick to open them this way.

And I keep trying to add pictures to another thread. It won't let me.

It works best to use an external photo hosting site, like Imgur, Flickr, or what have you. The inbuilt photo uploader has some issues and it's much easier via the other methods.

You'll need to copy out the image URL and paste it into the "Insert Photo" dialogue in the "From URL" tab.

Just use Tinypic, you can upload your photo without having an account there, you can choose the size of the picture... just paste te code for "forums and message boards" in de reply box here and the picture appears ;)

As for the flicking, it's just practice, no danger at all.
I've opened a Kershaw cryo 4 times with the tumbstud and the blade came back and nearly bit my thumb every time

Practice makes perfect. Keep on flicking! I usually open my Spydies (ones with holes) with another hand, but I "can" open them one handed. Not a speed skill I need. If I want speed, I get an assisted opener.

I dont flick my spydercos open rather I do the middle finger thing that tchapman does or I anchor my pinky and ring fingers on the clip, place my thumb in the hole and bring it up and back instead of outwards.

I have no need to flick my knives, and was worried about excessive wear on my PM2, so I didn't try for a long time. I got a Manix 2 and learned that I could flick open the blade with my thumb, but never could do it with my middle finger like some people do. I occasionally flick open the Manix, just for fun, and I don't think it is harmed by it due to its different lock type. But usually I just open my spyderco's in a controlled fashion with my thumb. Since then I've gotten a Delica and my particular one has a lot of friction between the blade and liners so it isn't flickable. Doesn't bother me, I just open it in a controlled fashion like my other spydercos.
