Well the auction ended so no pics;) also it's against the rules to post links to ebay......but I'll look into the knife, a moment please.

You can link to live eBay auctions for purposes of discussion (provenance, authenticity, etc). Closed auctions are 100% open for discussion. It's about the knife, not the sale.

Clarification - I'm not sure if they still do, but at one time Spyderco did engrave knives for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Some of the older catalogs show photos of those knives. There was even a PRCA Q. They may have engraved knives for other rodeo groups as well. However, the overlay on the knife pictured in hrspwr1's post was added after it left the factory.

This knife was given as award by the USTRC which stands for the "United States Team Roping Championships". I am a member of this amateur team roping association. This knife and others like it are embellished and given as prizes. A knife is usually carried by ropers to cut themselves or others out of a jam involving a rope. I am willing to bet the silver work was done by Californian Gary Gist (also a team roper). Nice knife. Side note, I carry a progrip which is less pointed which I feel is safer around moving people or animals.

Got er in the mail. Cleaned up pretty good too. Looks MUCH better in person. Im going to send the picture to Gist Silversmiths (thanks high desert)to see if he did in fact do the work. Than off to Spyderco to freshen up the blade

high desert, you know your stuff!

This an email I got from Gist Silversmiths.

"Hello Kurt,

Yes, this is a spyderco knife we attached a sterling overlay "Plate" to, for an award won by an individual that competed at a USTRC (United States Team Roping Championships) event. These are not pieces the general public can purchase. They must be won at an event.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Here is a link to Gist Silversmiths knives. Very cool work!
