hi guys,
I have a problem! I am in love with the purple delica 4, except the size. what I really need to know and I know a lot of you users on here are guys but if anyone has input if a delica will fit all right in my stupid girly shallow pockets or not. Because I also like the dragonfly 2 yet not as much as the delica but it will be a deciding factor because I know the dragonfly will fit in my pockets. Right now I carry a pink Kershaw chive and I love it but ive found its too small for secure grip at my job opening a lot of boxes and such. so if anyone has any input please feel free!:)

You should probably try one out in person. The Delica is a pretty popular Spyderco model, I'd think any sort of knife store would have some in stock you could check out.

The Delica is a fine knife (I happen to be carrying mine today) but I would suggest the Dragonfly.

The Dragonfly will be just a little bit bigger than your Chive so it will be more pocket friendly than the Delica. Where the Dragonfly really stands out is in it's ergonomics. It may be small, but it is designed to feel like a larger knife in hand and is extremely comfortable to use..

I do not own a dragonfly but love my delica. I have heard great things about the dragonfly so I don't think you can go wrong with either. One thing to note is the clip difference. The delica has a four way positionable clip whereas the dragonfly has a tension wire clip and is only able to be carried tip up. The other plus for the delica is that you can choose from about 5 different colors whereas the dragonfly only comes in black and orange in vg10, british racing green in zdp-189 and yellow in H1. I imagine for opening boxes either knife will have a blade that is plenty long enough so its really which catches your eye more or what fits better in your pocket.

For what it's worth, I say get that Delica! If it doesn't fit well in your front pocket, you might try other carry methods (such as in the back pocket or clipped inside the waistband.) Can't go wrong with either the Delica or Dragonfly for an everyday sort of pocket knife, imo.

Good luck! :)

I had my girlfriend try to fit a delica in her pocket (She's a size 1). The Delica didn't even fit halfway into her skinny cut jeans but fit snugly in regular cut jeans.

Just had my wife try it in her pocket. She is a size 8 (shhhhh don't tell anyone I said that!) and it just fits in her DKNY jeans, either boot cut or straight leg.

Thanks guys! That helps a lot I'm closer to a size 1 but thank you for all the help. I opened another thread stating I was open to suggestions other than just the Spyderco delica and dragonfly such as cricket or maybe just upgrading to the kershaw scallion. Any suggestions on those? My main use of a knife is for constant box/mail opening as well as small stuff around the house. Again thanks a ton!

I'd give my nod to the delica, I've had both (dragonfly in zdp and vg-10) but I prefer the thinner grind from the delicas blade and more pointed tip. But you can't possibly fail with either!

The Scallion is actually an upgrade to the Chive in size only. They both have the same blade steel. If you are looking to get a better blade steel that will keep it's edge longer you were on the right track with the Delica & Dragonfly. Not sure where your price limit is, but I would take a look at the Benchmade Mini Griptillian. On par with the delica in size, and also a great blade with multiple choices in handle colors.

I really don't know how "girly shallow" your pockets are but I would suspect a Dragonfly 2 would fit without any question. Given that the DF2 has enough handle for a decent grip even for a large man's hand, the only question now becomes whether or not you need the extra blade length of the Delica. That's up to you.

They are pretty shallow. Gal i work with showed me by trying to put her iPhone in her front pocket. Side to side it was a struggle for her and depth wise maybe a 3rd of it went in. I was shocked why they even put pockets on the jeans.......i guess for cash maybe or decoration?

On topic....id go delica......except for the pocket issue. I own both. I find the delica to be a much more useful all around pocket knife....except when in girl jeans pockets of course.

Get both! Really you can't go wrong with either one. Find the steel you want. You don't "have" to pocket carry. Many people (skinny jean type) outside carry, the clip is in the pocket. An some waistband carry as well.

Get the largest one you want and put it in your purse? 😃

I carry a dragonfly 2 as a back up blade to my larger knives. I love how light weight it is. I carry it with my phone in the same pocket.

If a Delica doesn't fit, neither will a Mini-grip.

Can't go wrong with a Dragonfly. Both my wife and myself love them. They have a more secure grip than the Chive, yet the Dragonfly seemingly cuts well above its weight.

It's too bad you don't have some place or someone local who has all of these options for you to try first-hand.

I think I'm going with an orange dragonfly 2(: since the pink and purple arnt out and it'll be easy to find when my cat knocks it off my table after work haha

I'd recommend the Dragonfly Salt II. If you're anything like my wife, this knife will be exposed to coffee spills, drops in the toilet, lost in the bottom of a purse, puddles... and pretty much any other wet situation you can think of. H1 steel is pretty much completely rust proof, which is a huge perk!
