So as most of us know, we can take some verbal jabs from people about always carrying a knife, but we all know as well, that when a cutting tool is needed, everyone will look to us.
As was the case as I took my daughters to camp yesterday. All the campers were required to pass a swim test to be able to have free rain of the pool during swim times. Once the test was over, those that pass get a yellow wrist band and those that didn't get a purple one. The problem presents itself when they snap these adults size plastic wrist bands on 4th grader size wrists. Kids begin to complain about the large strap flapping around.
But wait, why aren't Bolt's kids complaining? That's right, my trusty razor sharp Delica was riding along in my pocket yesterday, and I had cut the excess strap off my kids wrist band the second they were put on.
Word began to spread through out the camp. That man has a knife! But instead of running from me..... Kids came to me like I was Santa.
Spyderco SAVES the day!

I can't believe you had a knife with your around CHILDREN! How irresponsible are you! Someone could've gotten hurt or killed with that WEAPON you're toting around. You should be ashamed of yourself!

I agree. Terrible judgement to expose kids to useful tools.

You should have had a Ka-bar fixed blade. Or some other type of ridiculously oversized fixed blade. Maybe a machete. Funny to see people overreact to a TOOL.

Yep our knives are deadly weapons used for such diabolical purposes as cutting excess pieces of wrist bands, opening Christmas presents or boxes, sharpening pencils, and all other forms or evil.

But more to the point, glad to see (and read) about people appreciating a good tool, keep up the good publicity.

One little girl made me laugh when I pulled out my knife her mother said, "oh my", and her daughter at the young age of 9, said, "cool pocket knife". I said thank you and smiled at the mother. Maybe it is because it had a locking blade and was desert tan that made it seam so threatening. People are funny with their precomposed fears.

a locking blade?!! Oh, the humanity!!

Good story Bolt,I on the other hand give guys verbal jabs for not always having a knife on them.Sorta like walking around naked.

I was diving to cut some rope out of the propellers of my friend's whale watch boat last week. I got there as they were unloading the passengers and got my wetsuit and tank on. I was getting ready to go into the water and handed my brother my knife and I heard a little kid on the boat say "Daaaad....why can THAT guy have a knife but I can't?" :D I didn't catch all of the dad's response but it was something to the effect of "he needs it for his job"...the boy looked to be about 8 or 9 years old...hopefully a future knife knut :D

Great story. It's true that once you get known as 'someone who always carries a knife,' you can transition from 'potential menace' to 'available resource' fairly quickly. Everytime I'm at a time or a family event, and something needs cutting, it's "Oh, go see my brother/co-worker/friend, he'll help you with that..."
