Is there any way to adjust my new Delica so that i can flick it open with my finger? It is so tight that it is impossible to flick. I'm giving it to my son for Christmas and he wants to be able to flick his knife open he said. I tried loosening the pivot screw but that didn't help it just made the blade wobble

The problem is that the delica isn't a liner lock, it is a lockback type knife which inherently are harder to open and close.

That being said, the two options I would suggest would be:

1. trying some synthetic oil
2. taking it apart and polishing the metal contact surfaces

Hope this helps.

For a dry lube try powdered graphite. But like Razor edge said it is the lock type that is the major problem. Get a Para 2 and finger flick away.

My latest delica was very ruff opening. I tried adjusting the pivit, and oil. No luck. Turns out where the lock meets the blade was very roughly finished. I took it apart and lightly polished it with my spyderco uf stones from my shapemaker. Problem solved. Like butter. Not as smooth and fast as a griptilian but still much better. Ill warn you though, the Delica is a PITA to put back together.

BTW, if you disassemble the knife, it voids the warranty, which is one of the best things about owning a Spyderco. If you have any reason at all to believe that it was not made correctly, ship it back to Golden, CO, and I am sure that Sal and company will take care of it.
