i just purchased a spyderco delica w/vg-10 blade. any feedback on this knife or spydercos in general???......thx p

I have a spyderco grey caly jr and its a great knife. i also have a a ladybug, 2 crickets (or i should say one since my GF took one) and a viele II. all great knives that were very sharp out of box. if you're looking for info on your delica check out the spyderco forum. hope you enjoy your new knife!

I had a Delica, but found the full flat grind of Caly Jr. best suited my cutting needs. Flat grind makes a better slicer. JMO

*go figure, I'm carrying a CRKT M-21 this week!

Lots of feedback, almost all positive. Sal Glesser is almost worshipped in some circles here. Only complaints he seems to get are from people who aren't fond of his knife styles... but, they grow on you.

Spyderco is the favorite knifemaker of lots of folks here, including myself. Some folks find them funny-looking (this never really occurred to me until others mentioned it), but it's always because their form follows function. You can't beat the round opening hole--certainly not with thumbstuds, and not even with a non-round hole. They're always on the cutting edge of functional design, and they really listen to their customers. They can also teach some other companies a thing or two about making a truly sharp blade.

Unfortunately, the one thing they don't have is my favorite lock type (Axis lock). If they did, I'd have a hard time buying any folders other than Spydies.

There are two kinds of beauty in this world. The kind you see with your eyes and the kind you feel with your hands. Spyderco's true beauty is in the feel. For years I gave them nothing more than a passing glance but it wasn't until I held one and then actually used one that I was feeling like I'd missed the boat for so long.

They are one of my favorite makers. Great company, even greater people including but not limited to the owner, and a great warranty and cust. support also. All this is really great but the best thing about Spyderco knives is the fact that 99.9% of the time they are the sharpest knives out of the box of any other make out there production or otherwise.

I've been a knife nut for years but always felt that Spyderco knives looked funky and that always turned me off. But everyone kept going on and one about them so I said what the hell, I'll get one.

I ordered myself an Endura and it's spent most of the last several months in my pocket. The ergos are amazing and VG-10 is fun stuff... easy to sharpen and great edge retention. I actually prefer the VG-10 to all the S30V and ATS-55 in my collection.

Spydercos in general are the only folders I'd even consider buying now (not taking into consideration if I came into some money and could spend $300 on some sweet knife). They are uniformly sharp (even the cheap Byrd), lightweight and handy. I personally prefer the Calypso Jr. to the Delica, not so much because of the diff. in cutting performance (for me its pretty much a draw, since I don't do significant cutting with my folders) but the Calypso feels much better in the hand with the choil and the thumb ramp (or whatever you call the hump!).

Can't go wrong with either.

Great knife. My Delica was my EDC for several years, until it went on walkabout. I haven't gotten around to picking up another yet (although next time I see one in a shop I'm just going to buy it on the spot), because when I lost it I was suddenly forced once again to explore other options!

Enjoy it, it's a real workhorse that won't let you down. Oh, by the way, did you get Spyderedge, plain, or combo? Mine was a full SE, which was awesome. Hell of a cutter.

Peace.

The only thing I wish was that all the models came with a beveled spyderhole.

The Delica is Spyderco's #1 all time best selling knife. There's a reason for this.

I do to. I've yet to get one of the new ZDP-189 ones though (hm, I get paid on Monday...). Even though the Delica and Calypso Jr. are nearly identical in size, the Calypso Jr. feels bigger because of its ergonomics, especially the finger choil.

i just got a plain blade and its the sharpest out of the box knife i've ever bought....sharp...sharp....sharp

Thanx for the support Paul.. Hope you enjoy our offering.

Thanx much for the kind words guys.

i've had my delica as my edc for about 2 years now. it's used averyday and hard. i manage a farm and use it to cut irrigation lines and hoses all the time. bailing wire, nylon straps, rope, twine, cardboard etc. i've used it to score and snap thin boards, cut through plastic sheating, and i've even used it to scrape the tines on farm equipment. now granted, the edge is probably the ugliest most have seen. but it works. it's always at my side, even when simming and conoeing. never had a bit of rust. it still holds a decent edge and has alot of life left in it. i'll soon be looking for a spydie para, caly jr, or manix. i like the g10 and the handle on mine is alomost shot due to opening beer bottles with the butt.

I'm with you.

To me, the Calypso Jr. is the Delica, evolved. Same size, same basic shape, but the Caly incorporates all the advancements Spyderco has made in ergonomic design over the last 15 years.

The only advantage I see to the Delica is the stiffer blade (saber grind vs. full flat ground), but in that class of knife, I really doubt it matters much in Real Life.

Amen. Could not have said it any better!

Spyderco IMHO is #1, I find myself buying more of those and less/none of others. Delica is a great knife, along with the Endura, Calypso Jr., Centofante III, Salt models, [Insert Full Catalog List Here] :p

You say Tomatto,I say Tommato...I have the full gammut of FRN Spydercos and my favorite is the Endura. The Delica is a nice little brother and the Calypso Jr is it's refined Cousin from the other side of the family.Pick the one you like best for fit in YOUR hand and forget what everyone else prefers.Forget keeping up with the Jones'.When you own a Spyderco you ARE the Jones'.tom.

Got myself a Delica VG10 too after I got the Dragonfly. Felt at the time that it's time to move to a little bigger knife. It was fine until I got my hands on the sweet Caly Jy (grey) VG10. This baby is awesome! Cuts really well better than the Delica, partly due to it being flat grind I'm sure. I especially love to cut open those shower soap refill packages (they are like plastic but with some shiny silvery insides-dunno what u call em).
My only worry abt the Caly is that the black Spydie logo on the clip might rub off...so now I wore it with a lanyard around my neck as a emergency blade beside my Delica and Dragonfly in my pocket. Will only use it for light cutting and use the Delica most of the time.
One thing I don't like abt the FRN Delica is that the clip which is covered in black finish rubs off quite easily. Now my Delica clip looks more worn off than the rest of the blade thus officially making it the most used knife in my possession.
