Spyderco Delicas made in usa??

Hi Andrew,

Spyderco Delica's are made in Seki-City Japan. Now in their 4th evolution, they are still made by the original maker.

Hmm..I'm kind of disapointed they aren't made in the US, but at the same time, if that's where they've always been made, then they are doing something right. Thanks for the info. -Andrew

There's nothing wrong with the knife being made in Japan- at least they're being manufactured extremely well. They're cheap, good quality knives. If they were made here, they'd be more costly good quality knives :D If you still want an "American made" knife, Spyderco offers plenty of home-grown knives I believe. But really, if you're looking for a low-cost, lightweight, well-designed knife, don't worry about where it's made and enjoy it  Spyderco doesn't get low-quality, poorly made Taiwanese blades like Gerber seems to.

Well, I think Japan has better quality control on most products, when comparing to China, Taiwan, Korea etc. -Andrew

Hi Roknroll,

I have fund that is more often than not, the "who" is more important than the "where". If the passion is there, the excellence is possible.

In the creqating of blades, a culture's experience in quality blades does seem to have an influence. Japanese swordmakers are among the oldest skills, hence quite refined. In 800 AD, the swordmakers of Japan began migrating to the Seki area. There were rivers, lots of iron in the soil, breezes and mild temperatures. For the next 1000 years, they developed their art in Seki-City.

Well put Sal.

If you want a more cost efficient model that is FRN and made in the USA pick up a S30V Native I from Wal-Mart or New Graham.

There's something natural about using your "Made in Japan" Delica to cut sushi. That VG-10 blade does a number on the toughest seaweed, and a little soap and water gets the sticky rice residue right off.
