Please excuse me if this seems somewhat ambiguous but I have never posted on this particular forum before. I was wondering where the original "Spyderco design" came from. I believe it is a very good design, I must admit it is "different" to say the least.

One other question. Are the products actually made by Spyderco or does Spyderco do what Browning Firearms does and has their products made (to their specs) by another company or facility?

C L, as I understand it, there are two sources for Spyderco designs. The first is "inhouse", in that the Spyderco staff, including especially Sal Glesser, developes the designs. The second is the collaboration route, as in the Terzoula StarMate, the Wegner, the Shabaria, and others, where Spyderco works with well-known designers to produce knife designs.

Spyderco knives are made two ways. The premier knives are made in the Golden, Colorado, Spyderco plant while the lower priced models are contracted to quiality producers in Seki City, Japan. Examples of the former would be the Military and most if not all of the collaborations while examples of the latter would be teh Endura or the Delica.

I hope that I am correct in all of this and I hope that it helps you.
