Of the people that have them how do like them? I'm thinking of getting some but just wondered how well they work.
Thanks Captain Ron

I couldn't do without mine. The regular hones are great if you're doing touch-ups, but if you have a really dull knife it would take you forever without the diamonds.

Great for a really dull edge or reprofiling. Lowest price I've seen is at New Graham. Email Mike Dye.

Capt. Ron,
I guess you could call me a cheap skate. I looked at the diamond sleeves. They wanted like $ 75.00 for them. I went out and purchased a gerber diamond "pencil" hone for 7 bucks. I taped the hone to the flat of the crock sticks and used that to sharpen a Cold Steel knife that I have. I also have a Lansky sharpening system that I did the same thing to. I taped the sharpener to a aluminum rod and use in in the guide. It did the job. And was a lot less then &% bucks. I figure I dont use a diamond sharpener that often, so its not big deal if it takes me a little more time to sharpen a blade.
Like I said this is just me. I looked at all kinds of diamond sharpeners and the spydie just seemed WAY over priced.
Good luck
Jack

Newgraham.com has them in the $50.00 range.

If you like the Spydie sharpener, then do yourself a favor and buy the diamond rods. It just makes the job so much easier when reprofiling or repairing edge damage. Big D1

The diamond coat on my Gerber diamond rod seems to be coming off, after reprofiling only a few blades.

Does this happen with the Spyderco rods?

The diamonds will come off the rod if too much pressure is used, only suppossed to apply light pressure, just let the blade skim down the rod....

I have been using a set of the original Spydero diamond slipcovers for over 15 years! They go over the ceramic rods and work great. One of these days I'll break down and get the new ones . . . figure they'll last the rest-o-my natural life at this rate!:D

they are a terrific expensive gadget...if you like that stuff, get it.
