Does anybody know the exact process Spyderco uses to coat their black blades? I'm kind of also interested in how they wear, anyone have a pic of a spydie with a worn dlc blade?

I've got a military with a black blade I've carried off and on since 2008 or 2009 I think. I prefer uncoated blades usually, but it has held up very well. I've bumped into other pieces of metal cutting things over the years and put what I thought were scratches in the coating only to have them wipe off.

I have a used PM2 DLC and I believe I'm the third owner. I've used it some and, judging by the wear on the G10, I assume the previous owners had used it too. The DLC coating still looks great.

Keep in mind that the Japanese models with black blade use Titanium Carbonitride (TiCN) and not DLC. I have no experience with TiCN but I've read it doesn't hold up quite as well as DLC. Maybe someone with TiCN experience will chime in with their thoughts.

This is from a while back.

I prefer uncoated blades myself, a Para 2 is my only DLC blade, had it since about 2011 and though the knife shows signs of use and wear, the DLC coating is still fine.
