Is zdp-189 as good as it is hyped? I have no experience with this steel, but I have heard that it chips quite easily. Opinions about spyderco's dragonfly ZDP-189?

ZDP is a great steel, in my experience. It will chip because most companies that use it opt for thinner stock and higher hardness. At a lower hardness it loses its edge retention. Just like with any steel, there is a compromise when one aspect is increased another will usually suffer as a result.

I've had it for a little while and I really like it. I think the zdp is good on this knife because its a small knife that you really can't use hard enough to cause significant chipping.

I own a G10 DFly and a ZDP in FRN DFly. I prefer the ZDP version, nothing wrong with VG10 though, I just appreciate how much longer the steel stays laser sharp.

I've used my zdp endura relativly hard and have not seen any big edge damage or chips. Its one of my favorite steels and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more zdp blades after what I've seen my endura do. I just read a thread here a few days ago, and a forum member used a zdp endura for work (construction) and he beat the living hell out of it. It did chip the edge, but nothing crazy. He smashed it with hammers and all sorts of torture.
