I am looking at a Spyderco Dragonfly plain edge would this be a good choice, seems like a lot of people think they are a good knife, it will probably see some duty field dressing deer and squirrels.

Also any suggestions on where I can get one at a good price.

Thanks,

Shane

Unless you are someplace with deer the size of poodles, I would suggest something a bit larger, Like a Delica or a Calypso Jr. The Dragonfly is a good knife, but I don't think I would want to field dress a mule deer with a 2" blade and a three finger (well, two-and-a-half for me) handle.

Just a suggestion ;)

I would keep an eye out on the secondary market. $30-$35 is a good price add $10 if stainless steel handled.

I think it's one hell of a knife!

I would agree get yourself a 156 CSK from benchmade for deer, ~$80 and knifeworks.com excellent knife but the D2 is a hard steel to sharpen, ceramic or diamond is the way to go.

I have a CRKT M16(I think) and it's pretty good, problem is that once ya get your hands inside and can't see where exactly it is your cutting, it's nice to have a smaller blade.

As for price I have seen them for around $30 plus shipping at several sites. Looks like that's the best I'm going to do. Got sniped on E-bay the other night or I would have had one for $20 plus $5 for shipping.

Thanks

Just TODAY I got a Dragonfly in the mail (a swap I landed right here on bladeforums). A great little knife. Love the ergos. I can't comment on its usefulness for dressing out a deer, as I don't hunt. But I can't imagine using it as a primary tool for that - though it might play a role. Sweet little knife, though.

It's a good backup or city knife but it won't dress a deer. It may in a pinch, but I wouldn't if I could help it. Squirrels I don't see a problem with, conversely. I do love the ergonomics on that little guy though; superb!
