Spyderco Dry Stones?

I use water for ceramic stones. I'm very happy with the Spyderco stones I have.

I have the large flat stones, profiles, and one each of the sharpmaker triangles I have always used them dry without any problems. When the stones start to get shiny from the metal being removed I wash them with some bar keepers friend and they look like new. I have had my flat stones the longest (about 6 yrs.) and they still look almost like the day I got them, there are some steels like titanum that will leave permanent marks on the stones but they are very faint. You also wont need to worry about flattening them.

They're really great for sharpening in general. As knifenut said you will never need to flatten them and they are very low maintenance. I have all three and they work very well as finishing stones. Only thing is the medium is not coarse enough to set a bevel quickly and efficiently. You may need a coarser stone to start with before you move up to the ceramics. I would recommend a DMT X coarse or even XX coarse to start with. Diamond stones have always worked well for me with ceramic to finish the edge.

p.s. you can use water with the ceramic stones but it evaporates quickly and i've seen no benefit to wetting the stones in the first place.

KK--- I have King water stones. I use a wet wash cloth to hold them in place. Thanks for the tip! :)
