i am looking for a larger knife than my kershaw scallion, to use for EDC and some other tasks. I will not be using it by water a ton, but a little. If i got the endura, i wouldn't mind cleaning it. So, my question is, in your opinion, which do you like better?

if its with a plain edge go for the VG10 it seems to hold up better then the H1 PE, spydie Edge however id go H1

Pretty much. PE go VG-10, SE go H1. Unless rust is a concern but from what you said it shouldn't be.

Yeah, I would get the Endura 4 FFG. Just buy a Marine Tuf Cloth and wipe the blade down once a week or so!

I personally love serrated Spydercos. I have a fullly SE Stretch, Endura, Pacific Salt, Atlantic Salt, and Tenacious. I recently bought a Sharpmaker and I have come to the conclusion that the Spyderedge is easier to sharpen on the Sharpmaker then plain edge! 5 strokes on serrations and 1 on the flat side to smooth it out!

what do you think of the combo-edge? is the part with serrations too small to do anything?

@Nikkogi, why do you pic the endura over pacific salt? you have experience with both so why do you like endura better?

On an Endura, the combo edge wouldn't be too bad. I have a comb edge byrd Cara Cara, and the serrations are handy for cutting cardboard and similar. The blade is long enough to leave you with a decent amount of plain edge.

Cleaning the Pacific Salt (or an older Endura) will be easier, since the Endura 4 has nested liners that can trap moisture or crud behind them. And disassembling your Spyderco to clean it will void the waranty, so it's not really recommended.

They're both good knives, and I'm sure you'll be happy with either. They're both just different enough to make it a tough decision. I personally own a standard E4, but would like to add a Pacific Salt when funds permit. I've taken a liking to the older design, and the Pacific Salt is the closest I'll get until Spyderco does a sprint run of Endura 3 in M390. :)

As already mentioned, the VG-10 PE will hold an edge better than H1 PE, but I often carry a PE Pacific Salt, and also own an SE Pacific Salt. If you want the H1 edge retention, serrations are better. But the PE H1 isn't exactly made out of a bar of soap, either. I love the ease of maintenance.

However, the Pacific's blade is going to be tougher than the Endura's FFG VG-10 blade.
