Spyderco Endura 4 or Buck Vantage Pro?

I want to buy a good all-round knife for long outdoor trips. The work it will see will be any job you can think of in the woods. It won't see real abuse but it might see some rougher days. Since my budget is very limited I now reduced my options to the Spyderco Endura 4 PE and the Buck Vantage Pro.

Endura 4 pros:
-little longer
-better finish (lock etc.)??

Vantage Pro pros:
-S30V (I prefer it over VG10)
-little cheaper

Now, I've read some reviews of people who had problems with blade play/bad liner lockup on the first Vantage Pros, and most mentioned Buck would fix it in newer productions. Does anyone know if those problems are fixed by now? Because I really do need a reliable knife. If there are no problems with the Buck any more I think I'll buy that one.

What are other's opinions about this?

Had the Vantage Pro and gave it away. It had blade play issues and the liner would go all the way over to the other side. I sent it back to Buck, but it came back the same way.

Therefore, my vote goes to the Spyderco Endura 4, this has been an excellent work horse knife for me. The difference between VG-10 and S30V has not been signficant in my view. They both need to be sharpened eventually, as ALL blade steels do.

I have both & for outdoor use I would pick the Spyderco hands down.
The Buck is a very nice knife for $50...I use my Buck for Sunday carry (church & dinner w/ family) it's more of a classy knife. The Spyderco is a Lockback & the Buck is a line lock (thin line lock at that) The lock back is a stronger design IMO. I do like the S30V of the buck but the VG10 is ok to.
So I say Spyderco Endura 4

I don't think there are many knives that are more reliable than the endura. I would choose it hands dow over the buck. As far as warranty goes, I have heard good things about both companies. That being considered, I would much prefer a knife that I would be less likely to have to use the warranty on.

Endura4

I've carried one off an on for about 3 years; has not let me down no matter what the job.

Endura. I'm another one with liner lock problems with the Buck. The knife would be nice without those problems though.

I'd have to go with the Buck. I have 2 Vantage Pros and have had experienced none of the issues mentioned thus far in this thread. Both were purchased in the past couple of months. For me the Buck is more comfortable in hand. VG-10 vs. S30V doesn't really enter in to the mix for me.....I'm happy with either.

I have'nt handled the Buck but I don't know anyone who was disatisfied with an Endura. Its one of the best EDC folders there is. The Endura is lite in the pocket, kinda thin so it carres easily, 4 way clip option, good steel VG-10, nice size blade. Spyderco makes a great lockback (or mid-lock) so its probably more reliable than some liner locks. Its price is low enough that if you lose it or damage it you can replace it.

Spyderco, Hands down.
Though if you really want to rock it, get a Military. Best outdoor folder.

If you can find buck vantage pro without issues, grab it. It's a great knife for the price. Otherwise the choice is simple. Knife with issues vs knife without issues. If ordering online, go for Endura, it is a safer choice.

Endura.
If you can find a Buck Vantage without all the above mentioned issues you are lucky. Also the handle is too smooth for my taste. I wanted to like the Vantage but ended up selling it at a lose.

I would still pick the Endura if it was made of 420 ! Buck liner locks are too thin.

I would get a wave Endura. Even if you don't use the wave a lot it's worth is the times you might need or want it IMO. From what I've heard you'd be better or leaving those Vantage alone.

recently received abuck 110 in the alaskan guide series from cabelos s30v steel great knife perhaps not what you had in mind but if ihad to get by with this knife iwouldnt feel to hard doneby.

This is no contest. It's like running a Calumet Farms quarter horse against a Mexican donkey on a quarter mile track. Get the Endura. I can't believe you even needed to ask. When it comes to cutting stuff, always go with the Spydie. Sheesh. Next question please. :)
