When I handled the Spyderco Endura 4 Wave for the first time I was sold. In fact, I was so impressed with the overall design that I bought a second one for my father at the same time. The factory grind on both knives were spectacular and my Endura instantly replaced all of my other knives as my primary edc. It was the perfect edc: lightweight, wicked slicer, and lightning deployment.
Over time, I noticed 2 negatives with the knife. The first of these is that the weight of the knife in combination with the outward scoop of the pocket clip makes losing the knife extremely easy. I've had a few incidents where sticks/items have caught the pocket clip, pulling it out of my pocket (unbeknownst to me). This outward scoop also gives the clip a tendency to get caught on things and get bent. The second issue I have with this knife is the blade steel. While VG-10 gets wicked sharp, I have a very difficult time doing anything more than touch ups by hand on VG-10. I find that it is very easy to round out the edge. That being said, it is a very forgiving steel that produces a very sharp edge when properly sharpened.
On the flipside, the pros of this knife design are too great to ignore. The balance is superb, and the lockup is still clean and crisp (after 9 months of constantly playing with the action). The blade design provides strength while still preserving slicing and tip sharpness. But, my two favourite features are the emerson wave (lightening-fast deployment) and the bi-directional handle texturing (very grippy, yet doesn't shred your hands).
Overall, the spyderco endura 4 wave is a very well thought out design that has held up over the long-term.
