have had my endura for several years and sharpened it using my new Worksharp. i sharpened a bunch of knives before it; kitchen, folding, fixed blade, etc... and they all came out wicked sharp.

when i sharpened my endura, it also got very sharp, however i noticed the point seemed to round a bit. i looked at pics online and i coulda sworn the point was much sharper for better piercing, it seems the point maybe got sanded down... is that possible or am i crazy? if it is possible, is this something that can be fixed and if so how? thanks for any help!

Its fairly common,
you rounded the tip or rounded the point,
you need to adjust your technique
to pivot/rotate the blade so you can follow the curve,
to keep the edge at right angle(90 degrees) to the abrasive
and end with the tip on the abrasive, don't come off the stone
that should maintain the geometry and not round the tip

now comes the tough decision, let the new pointy tip emerge gradually through many sharpenings, or cut a completely new tip :D

thank you! will i be able to fix this if i follow that method or just chalk it up as an unfixable mistake?

:) the point is gone,
you can grind a new point,
or in future sharpenings , follow the curve and keep tip on the stone/abrasive
eventually through sharpenings your current rounded tip will get pointier again
and eventually through a lot of sharpenings, the edge and tip will thicken up anyway,
so you'll have to re-grind anyway

nothing wrong with a point thats a bit rounded

If you're talking about the powered WorkSharp belt sharpener,,, if you pull the knife all the way thru, the belt can wrap around the tip and do exactly what you said, "sand it off". Try to stop pulling and lift the knife off the belt as soon as the tip gets on, and before it gets half way across.

It doesn't look too bad, like bucketstove said, in a couple of sharpenings, just be careful, and the tip should return.

It's easier to bring the tip down in a way that looks more like yet tip on Delica.

Or, bring the edge up, this will need a lot of the edge taken out and to do it in a fashion that will blend into the rest of the edge, not really worth the effort
