I'm considering getting this knife in the future because I've heard ZDP-189 is the hardest steel in the knife industry today and it holds an edge for a really long time.Is that true? and are there any downsides to ZDP-189 or the Spyderco Endura?

Endura's are great - I highly recommend them! (....oh, and check your PM too :))

It was some cry initially that it was too brittle, but after about 4 years now there are enough evidence that this is not true. I was cutting everything from aluminum to drywall and it tends to chip rather then bend, but it does not chip as easy as other steels.

Other usual "concern" that it is hard to sharpen - I never was told what was used to sharpen to say that i was really hard, when I asked. I use DMT and Green Rouge, others uses ceramic and it is not bigger deal then for other steel to make it hair whittling sharp.

Only thing I do not like about green Enduras and Delicas - thick edge. I think ZDP189 deserve more delicate grind. However this is only production knives (not LE) which have ZDP189 blades, so not too much chose we have.

Thanks, Vassili.

I really like my ZDP Delica--it has exceptional edge holding and I haven't seen any problems yet.

I thought someone else besides Spyderco was making some knives in ZDP? William Henry? OK, those are probably different knife designs like slipjoints and not locking blades.

The Mule will be a full flat grind. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the other mules.
