I'm deciding which of these two knives I want to get. If you have any experience with either one, I'd like to hear your input. Thanks.

I only have the Heat and it's a great knife. But the truth is, I'd rather have an Endura w/ a Wave. Originally, I really like the concept of the A/O, but I got bored of it fairly quickly. I also really like the Griptilians and the acis lock.

It depends on what you want it for. The Endura Wave is a great, slim, compact knife. You will have more control over the opening than with an AO. (You can wave it open or use the opening hole more slowly.)

I have the old Endura Wave, without the steel liners and it is sturdy enough and very light. But I will probably get a new version also.

Not to confuse the issue but ... the Heat is great knife in its own right. Both of them are fine all-purpose utility-or self-defense. :D

Thanks for the replies. Keep 'em coming.

By the way, one of the things that interested me in the Heat(as childish as this sounds) is that I'm a big fan of westerns and the thought of opening a knife the same way a cowboy would fan his gun to fire it was kind of interesting. Can you actually do this with the Heat. You know, using the palm of your other hand to swipe the fin to flip open the blade?

And how do Axis locks work?

My only complaint about the Heat I own is that it takes a lot of force to get the blade started. Like so much it hurts your finger if you do it 10 - 20 times in a row. They also could have gotten rid of the sharp corners on the flipper too. Easy to sharpen and an excellent utility blade though.

Agreed with Oilman on the force it requires to open the Heat - it's OK once you develop calluses, though:D I have a Heat and both the Endura 3 and 4, but not the waved one. AO is neat, but as mentioned, the novelty does wear off. For me, anything past 3 inches, falls into the big knife category and size/weight does matter - especially if you carry multiple blades like I do. Is one better than the other? That's actually a tough call - they both have their merits - the Endura, has light weight, supersteel, the Heat has ergos, and a good steel - I feel the Heat is a "neat looking" blade, the Endura looks bigger than it really is, but then it still is BIG:) For my hands, which are medium small, the ergos on an E4 vs. Heat are a very close match. When it comes to actual use, I've probably used my Endura's (I have 3 - two E3's and and E4), way more than my Heat, for what that is worth - I just don't use the larger blades all that often, despite owning a bunch of them. If we scale this down to compare the Blaze to either the Delica 3 or 4, my Delica 3 or 4 ends up in my pocket more often than not. I've just found it(them) more useful and easier to carry. The other one that sees huge pocket time with my D4 (since it replaced the D3), is a BM Mini-Grip.

Hope this helps - gord

If you think that idea is neat, try 'quick-drawing' a waved knife out of your pocket! More satisfying I would think than a two handed faux 'hammer cock' blade opening as you describe.

Speaking as another child here, though. Any apple you slice won't care either way.

Get the Endura. You'll not regret it.

Spyderco all the way!! That is an easy choice!! Asd I am a huge Spyderco fan!!

You can't go wrong with either one. I've handled the Heat before, feels nice in the hand. I've never handled a waved Endura but I have handled an Endura 4 and I zip-waved my Delica for a while. Either knife would be a good EDC.

Thanks for the replies. They're a big help.

Oh, and is the Benchmade Griptillian an AO?

And I take it from all the comments about the Heat being a little difficult to open, you can't really do the swiping motion I was talking about.

Griptillian is an axis locking knife, not AO.

The waved endura is designed as a weapon. That's the purpose of the wave...easy quick access for self-defense. In any othe application, the hole works just fine. If your area has any restrictive knive laws that do not allow the carry of a knife designed as a weapon (most states have these laws), you may want to purchase something else if you ever anticipate being stopped by a cop with this blade in your pocket.

Most of those laws aren't so much about the knife itself (other than switchblades, gravity knives, maybe balisongs), but about the "intent" of the user.

However, some places do have official blade length limits (and many more have cops who impose the "unofficial" limit that the blade can't be longer than the width of his palm); the Endura's blade is about 4" long, vs. ~3.25" on the Heat. That right there could be an issue, depending on where the OP lives.

I've got a waved Endura and I love it. I have several AO's and I can tell you that the novelty wears off and then the knife wears out, either the mechanism or something else. The Endura is certainly more durable if that's a consideration for you. I plan on getting the Delica wave because sometimes the Endura's a little too big. I noticed a strange look when I pulled it out today (That did not sound good).

The gunslinger thing is very fun with the wave!!

2 things about the Heat is I love the ergos and the shape of the blade. Darrell Ralph did a great job with it. I don't like that it's a liner lock and I'm getting a little tired of the AO. Better steel would be great too.

With all this talk about the Endura Wave I went to my Spydies and brought it back out for a little carry time. It's a fun knife and a great cutter, too. I also took out my Military and put them back to back. The Endura is only about 1/8" shorter blade!

---

If the Heat isn't quite up to anyone's standards, get the original Dominator. Better steel, better lock.

If you want to fan your blade open, get a Darrel Ralph GunHammer! :D

Wow, that close to the military! I was thinking about getting the Manix, but I may just get a military if it's not that much bigger. The military is also alot lighter. Does the regular military ride high in the pocket like the para?

Yes. Just like the Para.
