Spyderco Endura

I don't own either :( But I recomend the Stainless handle, I really don't like the Standard handles Spyderco uses, Seen to many Cheap Knock offs I guess

I have owned a stainless handled Endura (actually a couple of 'em), and I currently own the FRN handled version. I like the FRN handle better since it isn't as slippery in the hand, and doesn't show scratches like the stainless scales does. Also, the steel of the FRN version is "better" (VG-10).

As Dann pointed out, the steel of the Resin jobbie is better, so you need to evaluate beforehand how the knife is to be used.

I personally prefer the SS model because it looks so classy, and is hefty and rugged feeling.

FRN....
It might not look better but you're likely to appreciate the VG10 on the blades.

VG-10 is a much better steel than AUS-6. The zytel handles are very strong and give a very positive grip. The metal handled ones are a little slippery and weigh a lot more.

Well I am putting my money where my mouth is, I am buying a Endura II in Stainless in about 5 minutes. :D

Alright, With any luck I will have mine by Saurday, Monday at the latest. I had to get one out of principle, If I had a dollar for everytime I have heard someone recommend an Endura in those "Which knife should I get?" threads, I would have enough to buy a Mayo!! :D

The Endura is one of those classics that continues to perform through the years...I prefer the FRN handle myself 'cos it's lighter and for the VG 10 blade.

I agree that you get a way better steel for your money with VG-10 than you do with AUS-6. (I don't know why Spyderco makes the buyer make that choice; seems like they should offer VG-10 in either stainless or zytel.)

I'd still choose the zytel, however, because of the solid grip they offer compared to the slippery stainless, and their light weight. Clipped to a pair of cargo short in the summer, I don't even notice my lightweight Endura until I need it, then it's there. And don't ever doubt the strength of those "plastic" handles, man. They're rock solid.

If you want pretty, get a stag slipjoint or a William Henry. If tough and functional (at an affordable price) are your thing, a lightweight Endura will do the trick every time.

I got the Stainless...I like a nice heavy knife. Plus I like the way it looks. I agree that VG-10 holds a better edge than the AUS-6...but this knife is probably going to be seeing very minimal use. I'll see how I like it when I get it...if I don't like it I can always sell it on eBay! lol

I have the zyte, but if you want something that feels sturdy, go for the stainless!!! (its heavy though!)

Just to echo what some others have said, the stainless is really heavy.
Too heavy for my taste, especially in light-weight summer clothing.

It has also been my experience that heavy or bulky knives stay at home alot, so you might not have it when you really need it.

Good luck,
Allen.

I hear ya...thats why I have different knives for different seasons...lol I really liked it's appreance overall...I probably won't carry it that much since I usually only carry my One Hand SAK and my Carson neck knife. But I always like to switch it up with how I'm feeling...
