My endura wave came with a huge burr on the edge, but included in my order was a sharpmaker, so i figured id try it out, but the steel seemed very soft, and the edge has a significantly smaller belly than my plain endura, i cant get it to take an edge worth a damn. I know its not my skill cause i can get my other enduras sharp as hell.... i dont know what to do. and also i disassembled my standard endura for a cleaning and could not get the thing that holds the lock spring to fit back into the liners properly cause of the tension from the spring. any advice... i think i voided the warranty with my stupidity.... :(

Advice number one: use the newly reactivated search feature to check the Spyderco subforum for advice on reassembly of the D4/E4. the trick is to leave out either the blade or lockbar while assembling the knife. Then, after the liners, scales and backspacer are all aligned properly and screwed together firmly, slide the blade and washers, or the lockbar (whichever you decided on) into place against spring tension. Trying to sandwich stack all the parts will likely ruin the backspacer/spring holder. That's why they are selling parts kits now.

As far as the edge on your E4W goes, I'd start by running it edge down on the brown rod until I was sure the burr was gone, and go from there to get an edge. But then, I'd be doing on benchstones instead of a SharpMaker. ;)

i sharpened the burr away completly, but the steel seems very soft, turning the white stones completly black in 1 or 2 strokes. and the edge seems alot smaller than my other e4

I think what Yab is saying is to cut the edge directly into the stone lightly a few times to completely remove the weakened steel that forms the huge burr. After doing that it may take a little while to get a new, sharp edge on the knife, but that is the best way to approach it IMO. If it still burrs badly send it to Spyderco Warranty and Repair.

Yep, that is what I was saying.;) It does sound like you may have gotten a blade with a bad heat-treatment. I'm sure that Sal would be very interested in seeing it. He doesn't like it when things like that make it out into the wild.

what should i do? mail it back with a description of whats goin on? where should i send it to?
