I recently aquired a Spyderco Endura 4 with stainless steel handle. I was wiping off the blade under a lighted lamp and as I angled the blade under the light there seemed to be Japanese writing along the top side of the blade. It only shows up at certain angles. It is is more noticible on the blade side that has Seki-City Japan on it. Has anyone else noticed this that has one.

I just checked all of my seki folders....I have no idea what it is youre talking about. I want to see though! I'm interested

Could it be marks on the steel? Brand or manufacturer of the steel sheet? You know ...something that was not completely removed after processing...happens sometimes...

I just checked my Endura4 FRN out and I see what your talking about. But I don't think it is any kind of Kanji. It is too random. It looks to be like machining marks or "wrinkles". Reminds mi of earthworm tracks in dirt. Looks kinda like watermarks on stationary.

I think due to the required lighting condition and the angle, it would be almost impossible to photograph. Maybe it did happen.

My photo skills are very poor. It would be hard to capture. Blade needs to be at a certain angle to see and I'm picking up the glare on the blade from the light . At least UpChuck saw what I was talking about. He is correct as describing them as tracks. I am also seeing a series of crosses.

No it's not scratches or Japanese writing. At first it did appear to be but I was mistaken. Watermarks on stationary is more like it. But you can certainly see the patterns.
