Spyderco Factory resharpening program ???

Hey Everyone and Happy Holidays :

I just ordered a Dragonfly 2 salt PE as a Christmas gift for my son and I'm wondering what Spyderco's procedures are for sharpening knives that are sent in for occasional touch ups. He is fifteen years old,resides in Flordia and this will be his first real pocket /EDC knife. How easy will it be to send the knife back to Spyderco for ocasional touch up sharpning?

Any input regarding this post will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a direct quote from spydercos site:

Blade Sharpening: Complimentary on PlainEdges, SpyderEdges and CombinationEdges provided. Please include $5.00USD for shipping and handling. $5.00 will cover the return shipping cost for up to 4 knives.

When I send in my knives for warranty it takes around 2-3 weeks for it to get back to me. I don't know if the sharpening service is faster or not.
 
Get a sharpmaker! Idiot proof and you can sharpen all your other knives when ever you want! Very satisfying to produce your own razor sharp edge. Spyderco's sharpening service is great, but who wants to be with out their favorite Spydie for a few weeks!?!
 
Agree with the last two posters. The sharpmaker is a great tool and easy to use. Good way to learn the basics of sharpening and keep your knife razor sharp with minimal effort.
 
Thanks to everyone for the responses. My next knife specific purchase will be a sharp maker. I'm saving my pennies in the hope of scoring one in early spring of 2016.
