Spyderco Factory Sale Now on eBay?

I spent over two hours trying to buy a knife at the spyderco Factory 2nds sale , The site must have crashed 25 times. I wound up with nothing. Kind of funny that all of a sudden there is at least 25 listings on eBay for factory seconds , I guess a lot of people were more lucky then me.

I'm amazed and jealous of how many knives some people were able to order. I was never able to complete an order despite several attempts over the two days. Regardless, the sale always has a bunch of resellers that close out their purchases on eBay - just this year since all us online users "had a chance" it seems more at the forefront of our consciousness. Usually when it's in-person many people don't notice or care that a ton of seconds end up for re-sale online.

How is this a surprise? I'd bet more than half of those 2nds went to "resellers" aka flippers. o_O :poop: Why do you think there were so many bots trying to buy these knives? They didn't want the end users to get them, so they could charge you an additional ~$50+ for the privilege. Complete bull, I hope those flippers get crabs. ;)

To be clear, the site never crashed, it just bogged down to unusablity. A distinction without a difference in my opinion.

FWIW, this is the list of vendors attempting to sell Spyderco 2nds (as of a few mins ago) and the # of 2nd's that they are trying to sell:

CREEKSIDEEMPORIUMLLC - 1
LEENGR21 - 4
JTRDEMPSY - 1
MXTEXAS - 5
STANGERX03X - 1
TRACKLES69 - 3
IVEYKNIVESANDTOOLS - 3
JAKEUMD2011 -2
TITUSRAY2 - 1
THINGSLYINGAROUND - 2
TGORMLE - 2
MIKE_JO - 4
HAUNTER559 - 1
HAMRS8 -3
KORPIC-47 - 1
SHARK_TOOTH_COLLECTIBLES - 1
JOHNT92 - 1
GOLDOFFICIAL - 1
BESTSTOREONLINE4U - 2
DOGSFINDS - 1
KAA_BLACKBIRD - 1
ELEVATEDTREASURES9200 - 2

Some of the knives being sold by these vendors still have the 2nd tags attached to the blades, which indicates that they were purchased from the recent online sale. For others, it's unclear.

Don't want to indict every vendor on the list for trying to grab as many 2nds from the online sale as possible in order to flip them for profit but it's evident that some of these vendors were doing just that.

Well, looks like it is not just limited to eBay. There are a couple on the Exchange here now too...

I went through the 2nds thread on spyderco forums. While some have obvious cosmetic issues, others as claimed by their owners are no different from firsts, which I hope won't be sold in the secondary as firsts. Thinking about it, it makes sense to ask for the factory box/paperwork when buying spyderco knives in the secondary market if the seller does not disclose whether they are seconds.

This is bizarre to see such a post in the company subforum and reflects poorly. What is the purpose of making such a list? You understand there are seconds being sold in the exchange here, are you going to add those users to your list?

Bizzare and "reflects poorly" in what way?

This is all public information and I looked and posted the info just to "verify" what was going on w/the 2nds in response to the complaints to member here that would never (or had great difficulty) in getting into the Spyderco site to buy any when the 2nds sale was being held.

I didn't say that any of the vendors in the list were doing anything "unscrupulous" but I think there are those who don't know (or weren't aware of) what was going on which made it difficult for them to buy a 2nd.

Seems entirely rational and proper to me.

I have no need to "out" any BF members doing the same because that info is also public and availalbe to everyone who logs onto this forum but they may not log on to EB and want to bother to compile the list (which will of course change over time).

It's just an illustration of the "problem." I don't think it violated any forum rules and I consider it a PUBLIC SERVICE to have posted the message as I did.

It is obviously an attempt to name & shame those who would re-sell their seconds. Doing so in the company subforum is distasteful and reflects poorly on both yourself and the company, in my opinion. This is not the criminal justice system, those sellers did not do anything illegal, and you are not in a position to indict anyone for anything. It is open debate if the sellers even did anything "wrong" in the sense that the 2nds sale in person has always served as an avenue to get more knives in people's hands through resellers that are willing and able to attend.

Are you also going to compile a list of users who sell sprint runs for more than they paid? What about discontinued models? Your list is poor form, and should be removed.

Which is Extremely Sad! IMO... I understand resale and making money.. That's what ebay is for, not the for sale section.

Hopefully None of them sell, for more than the extra of fee's and shipping

What nonsense!

Only eBay handles (not their "real" names which I have no access to) that were used (which is public info; anyone can find them) in the listings that they posted and as I stated twice, I was NOT accusing anyone of improper conduct (only reporting what I found).

Are you so "offended" because your eBay handle is on the list? Do tell . . . inquiring minds would like to know. LOL! o_O:rolleyes:

I do not sell on eBay, nor was I able to buy any seconds at the online sale. I can tell this not going to be a productive conversation. Goodbye.

Then why is he so upset about it?
