A buddy of mine gave me this knife as a gift and I just wanted to check its legitimacy. I just recently got into collecting so I’m still learning and am desperate for guidance. He bought it at a trade show apparently but seeing all the fakes out there I’m weary of just about any knife. That being said the knife is a quality product. It feels great. Looks great. Opens like a dream. Honestly even if it is fake l really don’t care. My friends been there for me through a lot, I just want to make sure he knows that this dealer was rotten so he can avoid in the future. Anyways here are some pics. https://share.icloud.com/photos/01dllvH5dghjdvIBVbVoYWQFQ

Both the knife and friend are real keepers. :)

Been there for me through both parents passing away, my mom when I was only 25. I don’t know how I would’ve made it through without him. And hell yeah it’s a pretty ballin’ gift to boot!

OP: Why do you think it's a fake?

The biggest tip off for Spyderco fakes is in the lettering on the blade & the materials used. The box, if you've got one, is also seldom made correctly & always lacks a properly printed end w/the knife model name, # & bar code on it.

FWIW, the knife you've got looks exactly like mine which is NOT a fake.

My only question is: Did your friend knew how much it was worth before he gave it to you?

So, if I were you, I'd tell him that you just learned that the knife is worth about $1k and ask him he knew that or not and whether he'd like the knife back or not . . . but that's just me. 🤷‍♂️

He knew the price going in and was able to haggle with the guy by trading. He essentially got it for about half that. He’s like a brother to me, we grew up together went to college together etc. He’s also a doctor haha. I assume the reason he was able to get the guy down on price was that there was no box. The guy said he got it in a storage locker that he bought at auction. Sounded shady to me but my friend just kinda said “what the hell” and went for it. this thing is easily the nicest knife I have ever seen. I’m honestly more worried that it *ahem* fell off the back of a truck…..
