Tried a Para Military 2: great knife but it wasn't for me. The Manix II looks more my speed. I'm thinking the lightweight version would be perfect for office work/most EDC task. The G10 version looks beefy enough to handle anything a good folder should handle.

I'd like to hear about some first hand experience with the Manix II. :)

I have a DLC hollow ground Manix 2, it's a very solid folder, in hand it just feels solid, well built and ready for hard use. Not light but I find it just fine to carry.

Got a lightweight Manix in BD1 for a mate, great knife, nice and light, great EDC. But in no way does it feel in hand as reassuringly solid as the standard Manix 2.
If I were to buy a lightweight Manix for myself it would definitely be the new S110V version.

I also have a Manix 2 XL that I carry and use a lot, same weight as the standard Manix 2 and just a joy of a big folder to carry, handle and use. My favourite Manix. Perhaps better suited to larger hands.

The manix is a weird knife to me. I've got the newer ffg g10 model. Beefy g10 and liners, and a strong lock, but thinner stock than the rest of the knife would suggest. Good ergos and good slicer, it's nice and thin behind the edge. I think the best one is the s110v, it has the best cutting performance per ounce out there I believe. I just hate frn.

The Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco folder. I've got 6 different models. Some thoughts:

Manix 2 XL - The big boy. Great knife, extremely good feel in hand. Only available in G10. This one fits my hand and is the most comfortable fit of the line.

Manix 2 G10 - Again, handle design is very comfortable. Solid and durable. A better carry size than the XL.

Manix 2 LW - My favorite of the line. I have both the BD-1 & the S110V models. The S110V almost never leaves my pocket. Great steel for the price and the weight is wonderful for carry. Add in the fact that, even though it is light weight, the FRN is as durable as G10 (if not more so!) and you have the "almost perfect EDC". The BD-1 has an FRCN handle, but the difference in those 2 materials are negligible. The BD-1 is a bit cheaper, easy to sharpen, but requires sharpening more often. Was my main EDC until the S110V came along.

Bottom line - I highly recommend the Manix 2 LW S110V. For the price, the durability, and the steel you just can't go wrong. This is an outstanding EDC in every way.

Best of luck on your decision. :)

I can only echo what others are saying here. It is a fantastic knife, and for the price you can't go wrong no matter which flavor you choose.

One thing to consider: it carries very wide in the pocket. If you're used to carrying Spyderco folders, this isn't a big deal; but if you're used to something else, this blade may surprise you a bit. Either way, if you're looking for a solid knife that'll give you a lifetime of use, the Manix is a great choice.

I carry the lightweight translucent blue a lot. It's light enough to pocket in gym shorts and not weigh the pocket down. In my experience it's plenty strong enough for my normal use too and offers plenty of blade size. The steel is CTS-BD1. In my experience to date, the steel takes a smokin' edge and has good edge retention.

I got mine for $50 as it was a store display model. I consider it one of the better purchases I've made on knives. Also, like you, I had a PM2 but wound up selling it because it rarely got carried over the Manix.

It's a great knife. I got the hollow ground in 154 cm when they first came out and just got the new FFG version. Ergos are perfect for me and the lock is easy to use once you figure it out. Great value. I'd be tempted to get the LW with S110V if I were you though.

I have the lightweight in both BD-1 and S110V models and I definitely recommend them. I'm loathe to spend more than $100 on a folder, and even with that I ordered the $110 S110V Manix as soon as I got paid.

This thread is funny.

I got rid of my manix2 and went for a PM2.

But IF I was to get another manix2.

Get the standard G10 and swap out the Steel lockball for a Ceramic.

SUPER SMOOTH

I have a PM2 and a Manix 2. I like the PM2 for EDC because it is slimmer and lighter. I don't really mind the size of the Manix 2 but it is wider in my pocket than the PM2, and also the G10 version is heavier. It feels like a real solid knife when using it. I think I like the BB lock better than the compression lock. The lightweight manix is very interesting because it is surprisingly light for its size, very hard to find right now though.

I have the Manix2 in S110V. The edge will last me forever, considering that I'm a light user. Great knife; wonderful steel.

I picked up a Manix2 S110v as my first Spyderco a few weeks ago. It's been in my pocket ever since- while it's quite large, it's light enough that I often forget I'm carrying it. At first the FRN handles feel cheap as hell, but so far they've held up quite nicely- no bladeplay and minimal flexing. Jimping isn't so nice TBH. The ball bearing lock is functional and smooth, and it hasn't opened in my pocket. It doesn't flip as smoothly as I'd like due to the wide angle of travel of the Spyderhole, which forces me to slightly readjust my grip, your mileage may vary there. I was initially skeptical of the wire clip, but it's turned out to be ridiculously strong. Plus I hear you can swap in a Caly 3.5 clip for deeper carry should you so choose.

Funny, I just got a dlc manix2 (s30v) and a Gayle Bradley yesterday.

My first impression on the manix is "this is one solid knife", the lockup is very solid with no blade play at all. I also love the relief in the ricasso for a "choked up" grip; reminds me of a strider in the hand. I can't say anything bad about this knife, and it's one of the few knives that were perfectly setup right out of the box (along with the gayle Bradley).

Speaking of the Gayle Bradley, I'd say checkout that knife if you haven't already. For the price ($130-180) you are getting a whole lotta knife for a reasonable dollar. IMHO, it's a better value instead of the manix; and nobody said you can't buy both:p

I've never handled the lightweight version, but I used to have one of the hollow-ground g10 knives. It was a beast. I could push cut through quikrete tubes with that thing, and it felt as solid as any fixed-blade of a similar size. If that's the sort of folding knife you're looking for, I'm not sure any other can beat it.

My suspicion is that while the lightweight version will pocket nicely for dressier clothes, it's still way too much knife for an office environment. Plus, light though it may be, it still takes up a lot of pocket real estate.

The Manix 2 lightweight is awesome.

S110V is awesome, the FRN is durable and the lock is solid.

The Manix 2 is my all time favorite. I have the BD-1 lightweight and the Black FFG G10 version; the latter is my favorite.

The design is perfect and feels great in you hand. The blade is thin and a wonderful slicer. I recommend picking one up hands down. You will not be disappointed.

I've owned both a G10 hollow grind and a full at grind as well as the new lightweight s110v. They are awesome knives but I prefer other knives in the same size category. Me hat I didn't love was how wide they were in my pocket laterally. They are thin but really wide so every time I put my hand in my pocket I scraped all the way in/out. I have let them all 3 go.

The s110v is amazing though. I wish they would make a Delica4 with it.

As other have said, you can't go wrong with that Model.

But my favorite Spyderco model to date is hands down the Domino. What are your thoughts on that one?

Although I really like the looks of the Manix; I doubt I am going to pick one up. Several reports discuss how large it is to carry in the pocket. I like a slimmer knife when folded. :/
