I've been on the fence for a while now and getting closer to puling the trigger.

Would really appreciate any feedback from people who own one. Thing's like feel in hand and pocket, and impressions of the steel performance. Also, as I've only seen picture so I could be wrong but the Spyder hole seems smaller then usual? Is this the case and if so does it have any effect on blade deployment? Meaning does it slow it down any or not feel right

Again, would really appreciate any input from owners.

Thanks!

Do a search, there's a couple of threads.

I actually did that first.

Perhaps it's my fault the way I did it, but all I came up with was sales threads, the announcement thread, and one review with very few posts.

I was hoping to be able to get some more feedback from actual owners now that it has been out longer.

Thank you for your suggestion though.

Rides similar to a military in pocket, its a wide/thin knife so high pressure if you grip it strongly during cuts. Thumbhole is 13mm and deploys just fine, can be flicked if you're used to larger knives. I can use it left or right handed easily. Haven't been able to do any high pressure/stress cutting so can't give an actual feedback from that perspective. Laethageal has a nice review on Spyderco forums. http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65435

Really appreciate, Thank you!

I've been carrying and using mine a bit. Despite it's size and weight, it seems light in pocket, even carried it in some shorts. I usually carry tip up, but this doesn't feel strange to me to be tip down. The blade is huge and isn't great for fine cutting tasks. Handle feels good in hand, though I've gotten used to choils on spydercos. Lock is hard to disengage on mine. Lockup is later than other spyderco frame locks I have. I just put a micro bevel on mine and the edge feels toothy, but as sharp as any knife I have. I don't think I'll carry it everyday, but it sure is tempting because of it's magnificent size and saber-like look. It seems like a deal considering the steel.

Great big blade. That's why the hole looks small.
Is your avatar indicative of where you'll be using this chunk of 10V? if so there are better rust resistant choices.

No but thank you for advising.

My avatar is The U.S Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin (WHEC-721) and I did two tours on her during my career, including being on the Re-commissioning crew way back when lol. I retired in 2009 and the Gallatin was recently decommissioned and given to the Nigerian navy.

As an aside during my time in service the blade steels I used most or carried while onboard ships and ashore were 440C, ATS-34, 154CM and some D2 toward the end but I was on shore during that time. Frequent oiling of ones blade was an absolute must. As a Gunner's Mate I had a plentiful supply of Break-Free CLP on hand at all times.....

Was H1 not available or well known yet? I would think that would be the go to blade steel for Coasties. An SE Pacific Salt would never leave me if I worked aboard any vessel.

I don't think so, not while I was onboard ships but if it was I wasn't aware at the time. To tell you the truth most coasties carried what was either issued to them or available at the exchange / PX that they bought themselves. I've seen far more Gerber, Sog, and yes, S&W knives carried then anything else while in service. Not all divisions ordered knives for their respective shops and multi tools were and are used far more then knives. Most everyone had a Leatherman or Gerber multi tool on them. I suspect thats still true today.

I'm sure H1 would have been very welcome but I don't recall it being available yet or if it was I didn't know about it.

I want to thank everyone in this thread for taking their time to give me some feedback. The review link provided by 78LilRed was particularly helpful and helped push me over the edge and I pulled the trigger on the K2! just in time for it to go out before the wekend.

Got it from Cutlery Shoppe at a great price and "Jeff" went out of his way to hand select one for me while I was on hold. According to the tracking it's heading my way as we speak.

I'm very excited and can't wait to get it in hand. I'll be sure to share my thoughts and impressions once I have it but have the feeliong I'm going to be very happy indeed!

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Great choice on using CS, that's where mine came from. It's a very amusing knife due to the size.

I actually just looked at one at New Graham Knives in Bluefield today. They had the K2 and the Bowie. The quality on both was exceptional but the K2 was so huge it almost looked like a novelty. I was impressed by the build quality but way too much knife for my needs.

Yeah, its a lot of knife. But, you would really be surprised at how well ya get used to it. I mean, I've been using and carrying mine since the morning I got it, and the more I do use it the better I like it and the better I get with it.
Which honestly from day one I found it to be extremely user friendly for a large folder. And I can't say enough about the ergo, f&f or the 10V blade. All outstanding imo.

I'm glad you can carry it comfortably, it's an impressive beast if the size doesn't kill it for you. The PM2 is the biggest knife I will carry and that isn't an EDC. I generally carry a Caly 3.5 because of the blade size being close to the PM2 but the handle being closer to the Delica. So you can imagine how much I was out of my "carry size comfort zone". :p

Well, I've had the K2 for a couple of day's now and my opinion of it in a word, Awesome!

It really hits the mark on all the levels that are important to me. The fit and finish is excellent , super smooth blade deployment, sound solid lock up, and overall feel in hand very nice. As far as in pocket carry surprisingly comfortable. It carries like others have said similar to a Military or in my case an AFCK. Not too big for me at all.

It's a very well thought out and executed design. Thin, slim but no doubt a brute of a knife capable of prolonged hard use. I'm very impressed, and pleased with this knife.

My only complaint, if I would even call it that is the lock is somewhat stiff and difficult to disengage. A drop of CLP had an immediate effect but I think going to have to break in a bit more but that's fine with me.

Overall very impressed!

Try using graphite (scribble a pencil on the lock face) until it gets properly broken in.

Thanks, that's the plan going forward.

Whenever I get a new blade, particularly a carbon non stainless steel one I apply Break-Free CLP to the entire blade and allow the recommended 2 to 24 hour cure for maximum corrosion prevention. After I wipe dry. Once dry I'll be using the graphite on lock face to help as you recommend.

Thanks!

Glad to hear that. My lock takes very little pressure to disengage. But mine was never really a problem from the day I got it. I'm sure yours will break in nicely.
