I got a Sypderco Firefly today and did this quick video to take a look at it and ask a few questions.

Questions / Observations:
- The washers between the blade are nylon instead of the phosphorous bronze that I see on my other Sypdercos. Is that normal for this model?
- The edges of the steel liners are very sharp, almost uncomfortably. Have other Firefly owners seen this?
- There are what appear to be some water spots on one side of the blade that won't come off. Has anyone seen this?

I did buy the knife used. It's in great condition and doesn't show any signs of actual use. My fears of a fake are extremely low.

Overall, I really like the knife. It's smaller than you would think but it feels good (other than the sharp liner edges).

The Firefly is a Taichung model and they tend to be a bit sharp around the edges. I'm not certain as far as the washers go, but I could imagine that this model is meant to be a gentlemans folder so fast deployment isn't of utmost concern.

I have a Firefly that I received directly from Spyderco in exchange for a discontinued model that couldn't be repaired.

Mine has the nylon washers and the action feels very smooth. So not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. I know the Ouroboros have the same washers and I'm sure others do as well.

The edges on the liners on mine are kind of sharp but not too bad. I think they feel similar to the liners on my GB1s. If they feel too sharp you can always break the edges with a Blade Medic or small ceramic stone.

As far as the spots on the blade. Mine did not look like that but it did have one large white(ish) blemish near the tang that I now think was a drop of dried thread locker. I'm not sure what it was and I don't really want to get into the details here. I'll just say I was a little frustrated when I was told by W&R that the spot wasn't there when it was shipped to me. With the spots on yours I would try wiping the blade down with a little oil to see if that cleans it up.

One word of advice about the Firefly that I'll pass on. Do not flick it open! It's a bit small and not easy to do anyway. But leave it to me to figure out how to do it. When I received mine I'm pretty sure the blade was centered and now it's way off after flicking it open only a few times. The knife has a fairly strong detent and, while it's a robust little knife, I think flicking it open threw things out of whack. I can see the little stop pin isn't square and I'm pretty sure it's a result of my stupidity. When time permits I'll send it back to Spyderco to see if anything can be done to correct.

Thanks everyone for the input. Just to be clear, I have no real complaints with the nylon washers, I just hadn't seen them on a Spyderco before. The knife opens/closes smoothly. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer PB washers but I won't lose sleep over it. I only wanted to make sure they should be there. My Lionsteel SR2-A washers are nylon and work great. My biggest complaint with the knife is sharp liner edges but even that won't keep me from enjoying it. I still like it overall. It's a neat design and I think the orange G10 looks great with the carbon fiber.

It's definitely a Japanese knife. That's why I compared it to my Urban and Karahawk (my only other Japanese Spydercos) in the video.

I did try a little oil on the blade but the spots remained.
