I found the flipper surface to smooth on my Southard so I too it to the bench grinder. At first I was just going to ruff up the flipper surface which did make an improvement in the flipping action. After about 4 trips to the grinder I got it ware I want it. The flipper now has a slight hook like a trigger and the surface is slightly ruff. Picture of a Southard Flipper unground are from the web.

I think it looks good. You sure are confident in your grinder abilities. I wouldn't have the guts to do that.

doesn't look like anything was done. which is a good thing and shows you did it right. good work

You could also file some serrations or even checkering into the flipper. Your mod is a subtle change and it looks good.

Ya I stared at the grinder for awhile before doing it. I started the grinder then shut it off when it reached top speed that way I would have more control on how much material was removed at the tip of flipper face. Thought about using a file but did not have one the right shape. No it is hard to see the difference but you can definitely feel the difference. It was a big improvement on the flipping action.
