Spyderco Folder Question

Hey, I read these forums all the time but this is my first attempt at actually posting a thread. I do have a question about Spyderco's folders, in particular the FRN handled ones that are riveted in and not user-adjustable. Do they generally have any blade play or develop it after a while, or do they stay pretty tight? I was thinking about getting the Centofante III but I would like some feedback first. Thanks in advance.

Have had no problems w/ my endura.

Rivets are reseatable. That is if the somehow came loose, you can peen them back into place with ease. Just strike between two hard flat surfaces w/ some taps and that will tighten a "non adjustable" rivet up. In an emergency you can make your own rivets from nails (cut to size) or other mild steel, though spyderco uses better materials.

Again, I have never had to do this w/ any Spyderco.

I've got a Delica that I've had for years and I've beat up pretty bad, and as far as I can tell it hasn't loosened up at all.

I have had and extensively used a number of Spydercos with riveted pivots and can say that I have never experienced a loose blade on any of them.

I have an Endura that is probably 6-7 years old and I use it a lot. Not a bit of blade play.

I have an Endura, a Delica, and a Rescue that all have developed a little side-to-side blade-play over the years--but they still work just fine.

Of course, an adjustable pivot would be better I think.

Good luck,
Allen.

I've got a Delica II all stainless steel, and I've had it for years. I've put it through plenty of (ab)use from southern Ontario to Northern BC. It was my only blade while I was hitchiking across Canada and frankly there is no way a folding knife should have survived what I put it through. It was my eating utensil, firewood gatherer, shelter construction tool... you name it. It stood up to use with a baton, it handled being buried in sand a few times, it stood up to just about everything I could throw at it. It's missing it's belt clip now, and it's got plenty of "character" but I would still trust my life to it. Of course... after what I put it through it doesn't owe me a damned thing :)

My Delica, which was the only EDC I used since the mid-ninteties, has been through a lot. The tip was bent a couple times and reprofiled, the serrations are nearly nubs, and the forward plain edge has been chipped and dinged and sharpened many times. It is made of AUS8. I've cut through many many strips of casting material--the broken bone kind--and has been used camping fishing, gardening, working wood, etc.

No side-to-side blade play whatsoever.
However, I think I finally killed the Delica, as it has developed unacceptable vertical play, even with mild push-cut pressure.

I have several Spydies with riveted pivot pin and all perform great. Among them, there is this SE FRN Delica, the most used and abused folder I ever had. After several years of EDC, still has no noticeable blade play. :)

I own or have owned a Merlin (since they were new), a Spyderhawk, a Jester and a Native III. No problem with any of them. I've had the Merlin the longest and it's still as tight as the day I bough it. Good luck

I have a couple Delicas, an Endura, and a Ladybug (all FRN). None have any blade play at all, including the one Delica I've EDC'ed for almost 3 years. That one gets used almost daily - the black paint is all worn off the clip, and the blade has a few scratches from my mistakes during resharpening. Other than that, it is as good and strong as when it came out of the box.
