Spyderco Folders That Could Also Be Great Fixed Blades?

Over at the other Forum ( Spyderco.com) there has been a lot more talk lately about Spyderco's great fixed blade models and many of these threads have been interesting and they have got me to thinking about possibilities that might benefit all of us. Because for a long time I've thought that there are a lot of Spyderco folder models that I really thought would also make great fixed blade models. Two models models that stand out to me as being great candidates for being converted into fixed blades are the C-60 Ayoob model and the C-17 Catcherman model. The Catcherman especially because a lot of guys I fish with won't use a folder for cleaning or filleting fish. And the Catcherman is a super design period.

There are so many Spyderco folders that when you look at them ( unfolded) and you think to yourself that would also make an excellent fixed blade. Two other models that I've thought for some time would make excellent fixed blades are the Chokwe model and the old reliable NATIVE model. The reason I pick the Native is twofold>> there is a lot of new demand for short-bladed fixed blades and the Native has always been one of my favorite "hard use" folders>> and I do believe it would make a great fixed blade.

So what Spyderco folders do you all think would make excellent fixed blades? Also you might tell us why you think that. OH I have one more because I tend to like Wharnie fixed blades and I've thought that the Des Horn would be a really cool fixed blade. OK tell which models you think would excel as fixed blades?

Vollaton, Szabo, Manix2 XL, GB2 built more like a GB1

I always thought about that myself. The millie is the first that comes to mind. With it being full tang with some contoured handles it would already be good to go. Spydercos have such good ergos already that i think most of them could be made into fixed blades with little modification.

I love that Szabo model recommendation "Scooter" because it's got a blade geometry very similar to that of my very beloved C-60 Ayoob model. And for a lot of the outdoor cutting chores I encounter I do love a blade with a belly on it even if it's just a little bit. To give you all another example of that take the old C-44 Dyad model with the sheepsfoot, serrated blade that has just a slight bit of belly to it>> I've found it to have a considerable better performance than I do with the straight sheepsfoot SE models.

The other Brother who recommended the older CHINOOK model I love that one as well for the same reasons. Great examples so far guys!!

Stretch -- yes please! We already have the Enuff; take that handle shape and sandwich in a thin-ground multi-purpose 3.5" drop point like the Stretch's, I'd be all over it!

Rock Lobster would make a great one too!

Oh I totally agree that the Rock Lobster would make a great fixed blade but I also would want it to be also available in Spyderedge. We just don't have enough Spyderedge fixed blades IMO.

Even the Pingo would make an interesting short fixed blade. On the other Forum a good friend of mine suggested a fixed blade version of the ULIZE model>> which I immediately agreed with him>> but again I would also want to see a Spyderedged version of that one too.

Yojimbo 2

The handle on the Yo2 is BARELY sufficient and they went and chopped more off to make a Ronin :confused:o_O:mad::confused:o_O

As would I, in a quick heartbeat! I'd bet quite a few more would also

u.w.

I feel like the military would be a great fixed blade. Like mentioned above, full tang and a bit of contouring to the handles. Since it doesnt need to fold you could add an inch to the blade length. If it was up to me I wouldnt just enlarfe the blade. I would lengthen it by continuing the curve of the edge about an inch out past where the tip terminates on a real millie. There would then just be less drop to the spine.

I would have wanted a fixed blade P'kal. I know we have the Reverse but that has the opposite problem, the handle is bigger than it needs to be.

There was a guy over at the Spyderco.com forum with the forum name "Ceya" and he submitted a really beautiful fixed blade Hawkbill design that he called Ceya's Hawk and I'm going to go through the old threads when I get time and see if I can pull it up. From what I remember of Ceya's Hawk it might just be exactly what you're looking for.

But I've also said that the Superhawk model would make a great fixed blade Hawkbill too.
